How to Get a Mooncalf in Hogwarts Legacy
You’ll first begin catching beasts during the “The Elf, the Nab-Sack, and the Loom” quest with Deek. Deek the House-elf will give you the Nab-Sack and teach you how to get magical beasts using it. Like your other abilities, you’ll place it on your spell diamond and use it on any animal to initiate the beast-rescue minigame.
Like you did with the Jobberknoll birds in the previous quest, you’ll have to get in range of the Mooncalf and use your Nab-Sack to catch it. However, make sure you’re doing this at night! You won’t find any Mooncalves during the day, and if you switch to daytime, they disappear until the world cycles to night again.

From here, the process is similar to when you caught the Jobberknoll. Use your Nab-Sack on a Mooncalf to start up the minigame, then press the key/button that appears on your screen. Since the beast will run away during this, you’ll likely have to chase it a bit and try again before you catch it successfully.
Once you finish the minigame, the Mooncalf will magically appear in your Nab-Sack for you to release into your Room of Requirement’s Vivarium.
