Veteran CS:GO players are very aware of some of the issues discussed around Smoke Grenade mechanics. For one, the smoke cloud would be slightly different for each player in the game, allowing certain people to gain advantages in random scenarios. Along with the official announcement of Counter Strike 2 came a complete Smoke Grenade overhaul. Let’s just say… it looks really good!

What are Responsive Smokes in Counter Strike 2?
Responsive Smokes in Counter Strike 2 completely revamp the Smoke Grenade system that we have all gotten comfortable with over the years.
Firstly, all players in a Counter-Strike 2 match will see the exact same smoke effect since it is now rendered as a 3D object that “lives” in the world. I can feel the collective sigh of relief within the Counter-Strike fan-base already!
Furthermore, the smoke cloud is now able to interact with the map, filling in certain spaces and moving around others.
Perhaps the most impactful change to Smoke Grenades is the ability for players to manipulate them with guns and grenades. As you can see in the image above, the player has shot a hole through the smoke cloud, allowing them and their teammates to see through it. Grenades will also cause a massive portion of the smoke to dissipate instantly.
These features will undoubtedly flip the traditional Counter-Strike meta on its head, changing the way the game is played fundamentally.
I’m extremely excited to see how players will utilize Responsive Smokes, and it looks like Valve has worked hard to make them fit into the game.
If you’d like a visual representation of how Responsive Smokes work, Valve has already uploaded a showcase video which can be seen below!
