Any melee players that are looking for a massive boost to critical strike damage should look no further than The Grandfather unique in Diablo 4. This two-handed sword can add a massive amount of damage to your critical hit damage and I will cover how you can get the weapon as you grind through the map.
Where to Find the Grandfather in Diablo 4
You can get The Grandfather Unique sword by completing activities such as Helltides, Nightmare Dungeons, and World Bosses on World Tier 3 or higher. I run through these events on World Tier 4 as much as possible because they have the best chance for rare drops. However, that doesn’t mean you are limited to these alone. The Tree of Whispers and the Gathering Legions are also good examples of lucrative content.
In general, Unique items like The Grandfather two-handed sword can be found nearly anywhere in Diablo 4. Mobs and simple chests will always have a slight chance of dropping rare gear at a much lower rate. As long as you are at World Tier 3 or World Tier 4, the possibility is there. I still recommend tougher content for Unique farming though.
Diablo 4 The Grandfather Effect
When you use The Grandfather, it’s all about boosting the damage of your critical strikes. Both the main aspect effect and the Affixes will ensure that you get an unbelievable spike in critical damage when compared to the bonuses from other single items in Diablo 4.

The Grandfather increases your critical strike damage by a flat percentage. That percentage can change depending on your stats and the scaling of the weapon, but it can go up to 100%. As for the Affixes, you can expect another increase in stats and critical strike damage.
Another great Unique for all classes is the Penitent Greaves. Make sure to check out my guide on the Penitent Greaves if you want a great frost-based armor piece in your Diablo 4 collection.
What Builds Use the Grandfather Unique in Diablo 4?
Considering the Grandfather is a weapon reserved for the Barbarian, you want this weapon for builds that have plenty of crowd control and rely on close-range battles. With the recent nerf to Critical Strike damage on some weapons, this can be a welcome addition to builds that rely on critical strikes for success.
Using the Grandfather in tandem with ice-based builds is also a great idea so you can land those critical hits without any worries. If the nerf to critical strike damage on swords is too much, then it may be time to throw the Diablo 4 weapon to the side.
