As you’ve played Pokemon GO, there’s a chance that you’ve seen amongst the Wailmers, Ponytas, and Metangs, that there’s a new Pokemon vying for a challenge. Heatran is our new Tier 5 raid Pokemon, and it can be quite a challenge if you’re not prepared. Here’s everything you need to know about how to defeat and capture Heatran in Pokemon GO’s raids.
Heatran Raid Guide for Pokemon GO: Weaknesses and Counters
The Lava Dome Pokemon Heatran is a very solid Pokemon in the Ultra and Master League. Which means that if your team is in need of a Pokemon that has plenty of bulk, fast move pressure, and shield pressure, Heatran is a fantastic choice. And with its dual typing, it’s not that difficult to bring down.
Heatran’s Raid Stats in Pokemon GO
When you challenge Heatran at a raid, you can expect the following stats:
- Typing: Fire and Steel
- Level: 65
- CP: 56,802
- Attack: 266
- Defense: 228
- HP: 20,000

Best Counters to Heatran in Pokemon GO
Because Heatran is a Fire and Steel-Type Pokemon, it has a 2.56x weakness to Ground Pokemon, followed by a 1.6x weakness to Fighting and Water. That makes the following Pokemon the best options against Heatran:
- Primal or Normal Groudon with Mud Shot and Precipice Blades
- Shadow or Normal Garchomp with Mud Shot and Earth Power
- Shadow or Normal Mamoswine with Mud Slap and High Horsepower
- Mega or Normal Swampert with Mud Shot and Earthquake
- Rhyperior with Mud Slap and Earthquake
- Shadow Golurk with Mud Slap and Earth Power
- Excadrill with Mud Slap and Drill Run
If you don’t have any of these Pokemon, focus on finding a Pokemon in your arsenal with a Ground-Type move. Failing that, a Pokemon with a Fighting or Water-Type move is fine, too, but make sure you’re tackling Heatran with enough trainers to make up for the lack of damage.
Heatran isn’t the only Pokemon in the spotlight. If you’re wandering around with the Pokemon GO app open, you’re likely to see Rufflets flooding your screen. And with so many Rufflets around, you might be wondering if that bird can be shiny. Here’s your answer: Can Rufflet be Shiny in Pokemon GO – Answered.
