The Bloodmoon Beast is a unique Ursaluna with a scarlet eye and Perrin is determined to find it for herself. Not to catch, of course, but to photograph! Unfortunately, finding Bloodmoon Ursaluna is easier said than done. Here’s how to find the Bloodmoon Ursaluna in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
How to Find Bloodmoon Ursaluna in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
Ursaluna is a Pokemon unique to the Hisui region. Or… at least it was! The Bloodmoon Beast is a unique version of Ursaluna that’s managed to find its way to Kitakami. And now, it can be yours. That is, if you can find it.
To start the quest to find the Bloodmoon Ursaluna, you’ll need to get 150 Pokemon registered in your Kitakami Pokedex. Once you do, speak to Perrin in Mossui Town, just west of the Community Center. She’ll reveal that Bloodmoon Ursaluna will only appear in the Timeless Woods. But first, you’ll have to fight her.
Getting to the Timeless Woods in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
This region is in the far corner of Kitakami, in the very Northeast. But it can easily be reached by following the Infernal Path from the Crystal Lakes, then jumping in the river. This will bring you to the Kitakami Wilds, which are adjacent to the Timeless Woods.
There are plenty of areas where you can drop into the recessed valley of Timeless Woods from there.
But it’s not enough to just arrive at the Timeless Woods. You’ll need to wait for the perfect weather conditions. The Bloodmoon Ursaluna will only appear in the Timeless Woods at night when there’s heavy fog.
Once you find Perrin in the Timeless Woods, she’ll set up a tent. You’ll then need to stay in the tent and wait for a foggy night, which will occur automatically. But you won’t immediately get to see Ursaluna. Perrin will ask that you take 10 photos of Pokemon in the fog as “groundwork”.
Taking 10 Photos of Pokemon in the Fog
To start this part of the quest, speak to Perrin again. Doing so will trigger a foggy night. You’ll then have to take photos of 10 Pokemon who appear in the fog. Here are ten examples:
- Sudowoodo
- Geodude
- Duskull
- Lotad
- Hatenna
- Seedot (in trees)
- Litwick
- Spinarak (on tree trunks)
- Vikaolt (to the Southeast, just to the right of Perrin’s camp, on the hill)
- Salandit (in the cave very close to the Vikatol’s position)
To take photos, press the down button of your D-pad on your Nintendo Switch. When you have a Pokemon in frame, press ‘A’. The photos don’t have to be spectacular. If a Pokemon is visible, that’s enough. Likewise, if you’re struggling to get close, press ‘B’ to crouch then approach the Pokemon. Press ‘B’ again to leave crouch and take the photo.
Finding and Defeating the Bloodmoon Beast Ursaluna
Once you’ve taken ten photos, report back to Perrin. You’ll have a small conversation with the photographer before you finally set off to fight Ursaluna.
And it’s quite the fight. Ursaluna is level 70 and a Ground and Normal-type Pokemon. It has the following moves:
- Blood Moon – The user unleashes the full brunt of its spirit from a full moon that shines as red as blood. This move can’t be used twice in a row.
- Earth Power – The user makes the ground under the target erupt with power. This may also lower the target’s Sp. Def stat.
- Slash – The target is attacked with a slash of claws, scythes, or the like. This move has a heightened chance of landing a critical hit.
- Calm Mind – The user focuses its mind and calms its spirit to boost its Sp. Atk and Sp. Def stats.
As a Ground and Normal Type Pokemon, Ursaluna is particularly vulnerable to Ice, Water, Grass, and Fighting-type Moves. But a Ghost Pokemon can go into this fight and avoid most of the damage it can inflict. And I highly recommend a Ghost Pokemon, as Ursaluna loves to use Blood Moon every chance it gets. In fact, it only used Blood Moon and Calm Mind in my fight, which made its signature move especially brutal.
If you want to absolutely trivialize this fight, bring Annihilape. This Ghost-Fighting type Pokemon will take no damage from Blood Moon or Slash and take half damage from Earth Power.
Once you defeat Bloodmoon Ursaluna, you’ll automatically be able to catch it.
And that ends that quest! But Ursaluna isn’t the only cool new Pokemon in Kitakami. There’s a brand-new caramelized dragon to be found, too.
