Sometimes, the greatest trip beyond the stars may prove to be a little too much for your favorite console, and you may find yourself stuck between a rock and a hard place. If you’ve been playing too much Starfield, there’s a good chance that you may eventually encounter a crash that causes the game to close or worse, a glitch so severe that it causes your Xbox to restart. Let’s jump into the cockpit of our favorite ship and find out if there is anything that you can do to try and get back into the adventure faster.
How To Fix Xbox Crashes When Playing Starfield
If you’re encountering countless errors and glitches on your Xbox, it’s time to start troubleshooting. The first thing that you’ll want to do is restart the game. This can be done by accessing the main menu, using the ☰ button on your controller to select the game, and hitting Close Game. Once this has been done, try accessing the game and see if your issues persist.
If crashes are still happening, the next step will be restarting your console. You can do this by selecting Settings, Profile & System, General, Power Options, and Restart Now. Once your system boots back up, try entering Starfield again and attempt to replicate the issues you were experiencing. If they’re still happening, we’ve got a few other steps to try.
If you’ve purchased the game, you can always try to launch it while you are not connected to the internet. There is a chance that your Cloud Saves could be the issue, and launching without a connection would be a surefire way to discover if this is the primary issue that you are facing. If you launch it and it works, then you know you need to delete your cloud saves.
On the other side of the coin, if this doesn’t work, you may need to delete your local saves and redownload a copy of them from the Cloud. To do this, select the Starfield game card, press the ☰ button, select Manage Games and Add-Ons, and navigate to Saved Data. Make sure that you’ve backed up what you have, and then select Delete All. Once you connect to the internet again, your cloud saves will sync with Starfield, and you’ll hopefully be off to the races.
If none of these other troubleshooting tips work, it might be time to uninstall and reinstall the game. No matter if you purchased the game on a disc or if you downloaded it from Game Pass, there may be a corrupted file that is causing issues on your console. Once you have done this, try launching Starfield again for an experience that is hopefully free and clear of any issues that you’re experiencing.
While Starfield may have been the most bug-free launch of any Bethesda game up to this point, it doesn’t mean that it’s completely impervious to bugs and issues.
