Pokemon fans are always eager for a new Pokemon type to mix up the meta. Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: The Indigo Disk introduces an intriguing new type called Stellar. But it is vastly different to that of the other eighteen Pokemon types, and here is how.
Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: The Indigo Disk’s New Stellar Type
The new Pokemon type in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: The Indigo Disk is called Stellar and is a Generation IX exclusive type that no Pokemon exists as. This means you will never encounter a regular Pokemon in the wild that is Stellar type. Instead, you can only encounter this unusual type when a Pokemon Terastallizes into it.
Stellar Type Strengths and Weaknesses
Strangely, despite the cool name and way that Pokemon receive this typing, Stellar is more normal than Normal-type itself.
Stellar Strength | Stellar Weakness | Stellar Immunity |
---|---|---|
N/A | N/A | N/A |
The Stellar typing gives it no advantage over any of the other eighteen types. It is not strong against anything, weak against anything, nor is it immune to any specific typing.
Stellar Type Benefits
Despite the Stellar type having no strengths or weaknesses, there are still certain aspects of the type that make it worthwhile to Terastallize into.
The two moves Tera Blast and Tera Sandstorm perform differently when a Pokemon is Terastallized into the Stellar type as opposed to during regular battles. When Tera Blast is used as a Stellar type it is super effective against any other Terastallized targets. The drawback is that it will lower your Pokemon’s Attack and Special Attack stats though. Tera Sandstorm works in the same way as Tera Blast, it is also super effective against any and all Terastallized targets. The only difference is that it doesn’t negatively impact the user in any way.
Stats-wise, in regular battles, each move of an individual type will receive a STAB boost once only. So, if you have multiple moves of the same type, it makes sense to use the strongest one first to take advantage of the additional STAB bonus. In Tera Raid Battles, each move of an individual type will receive a STAB boost. Unlike regular battles, there is no limit to the number of times that this bonus is received, and it will be an unlimited perk of terastallizing into the Stellar type.
How to Catch Stellar-Type Pokemon
You will not be able to find and catch any Stellar Type Pokemon until you have rolled credits on the Scarlet & Violet: The Indigo Disk main story. Once you have done so, you will be able to explore the Terarium, and locate Pokemon that have a distinct shiny rainbow hue around them. These are Pokemon that will terastallize into the Stellar type.
Otherwise, you can do this manually with Stellar Tera Shards. You can find these during your expeditions to Area Zero. Once you collect 50 of them, you can fly back to Paldea and visit the Treasure Eatery in Medali, and exchange all 50 to change a Pokemon’s Tera type to Stellar.
Now that you know how Stellar type works, it is time to put it to good use and hunt down some of the Legendary Pokemon that are unlocked post-game. There’s plenty of them, like Kyogre, for instance. Your PokeDex will thank you!
