Learn to Fish in No Rest For The Wicked to Survive

Relatively early on in your experience playing No Rest For The Wicked, once you crashland on foreign shores following the disastrous boat ride, you’ll stumble upon a fishing pole. It’s unassuming, just laying in the sand by the water, but it’s a welcome sight. After all, who doesn’t love a fishing minigame within their favorite RPG?

Once you scoop up the rod, the game lets you know that fishing is possible using the tool. However, they don’t explain much of anything else. For instance, where can you fish in No Rest For The Wicked? There isn’t a unique marker on the map or a glowing icon over a watering hole to let you know you can fish, sadly. Instead, it’s about intuition.

With the fishing rod equipped in your tool slot via the inventory menu, walk up to a body of water where you spot fish breaking the surface. In some instances, I had to step into the water properly to cast my line. But once you’re close enough, you’ll receive a prompt to cast the line and catch a fish.

Once your line is in the water, you’ll note a small group of fishing leaping to and fro near your hook. You must wait for one to bite, then quickly tap the prompt again to pull in your catch. It’s quite simple once you know what to watch for!

What To Do With Fish

Once you have a small selection of fish stashed in your inventory, you have a few options. The most likely route you’ll take, as most players will ultimately find the combat in No Rest For The Wicked challenging, is to cook up various meals and consume the fish to heal.

Unfortunately, in the early game, you won’t have any other recipes besides a bit of soup made of mushrooms and weeds that the ship’s cook taught you in the prologue. But as you progress, you will inevitably unlock new cooking recipes that can heal and buff your character.

Alternatively, if you need some cash to pay for new equipment or repairs, you can sell your fish stock to a merchant for a bit of coin.
