Nintendo Direct: New Kirby Game, Phoenix Wright Demo and More

On top of that, new Mario and Luigi-themed Wii remotes.

As promised, Nintendo made a few announcements this morning during its latest Direct special. Not all of the news was expected, but overall, there’s plenty to get excited about, whether you own a Wii U or 3DS.

First up, Nintendo announced a new Kirby game for the 3DS, which will arrive next year. The game features side-scrolling action in classic Kirby fashion, along with the ability to jump in and out of the screen. You can watch the debut trailer below.

Nintendo 3DS owners will also be able to check out a new demo for Phoenix Wright: Dual Destinies, which is available for download now. It’s a good primer to get ready for the full release, which will arrive October 24th as an exclusive eShop digital title.

Fans of the StreetPass feature will be happy with this news. By visiting Nintendo Zones, players can get data on the last six people who accessed the online feature, thus increasing the number of players they can add to their Plaza. That means more puzzle pieces and opportunities to obtain more outfits.

The Wii U also has a new update that will allow players to use the Wii U GamePad to display Wii games. Unfortunately, you’ll still need the Wii remote in order to play them. Other features include enabling the use of a USB keypad and opening PDF files in the system’s web browser. The update is available now, free-of-charge.

Nintendo will also release new Mario and Luigi-oriented Wii Remote Plus controllers, pictured above. These will be available starting November 1st for $39.99 apiece.

Finally, in the only piece of bad news during the Direct special, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, which was initially set to arrive this December, has received a slight delay. It’ll now arrive this February.
