The first major map pack for Call of Duty: Ghosts has arrived for Xbox 360 and Xbox One owners, and it’s a doozy. This pack, which sells for $14.99 on the Xbox Live Marketplace (or free if you’re a Season Pass holder) features four great new maps to fight through, as well as a new Extinction side story where you face off against hideous spiders.
We’ve got some tips that will help you out through each map, so use them to take down your enemies like a boss!
Bayview
This small-to-medium sized map takes place on an abandoned coastal boardwalk. This map features a number of buildings that you can run through, which provide an advantage.
First up, you’ll be able to get sufficient cover. If you’re firing out in the open and find enemy soldiers coming at you, quickly ducking inside is a tactic that will help you catch your breath for a second. However, you don’t want to stay put for too long, as someone can easily come in and catch you off guard, or throw in a grenade to flush you out. Take a second to recover your health, then keep moving – and preferably not in the direction of the guards you were running from, unless you’re ready for a firefight.
Watch out for a couple of water tanks as well. Although they don’t quite serve the same purpose as an explosive barrel would, causing them to explode could throw off enemies long enough for you to spring a surprise attack.
Finally, if you’ve got access to a sentry gun, go ahead and try to place it in the moving trolley car. The added mobility, on top of its firepower, can really do you a lot of good, especially when you’re trying to turn the tide against enemy forces.
Ignition
This well-sized map, inspired by the Scrapyard one from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, should be quite familiar to fans.
Set in a huge space facility in Florida, this map is best for those who like run and gun style play. That’s because of the unpredictable space debris that comes raining down at certain points. This can serve an advantage on less-than-smart adversaries that are out in the open, but unless you find dependable cover, you could easily join them. Keep moving, and watch out for when the debris is about to drop on you.
There are two “traps” that you can activate using rocket engines, which will burn any foes that are stuck underneath in the middle of a firefight. However, don’t linger around these switches too long, because they’re likely to be hot-spots for trouble. Look for a key opportunity to jump in and turn them on, and coordinate with teammates to trap enemy soldiers for a quick fry. This is a team tactic that can certainly turn in your favor.
Fog
Next up is a creepy medium-range map called Fog, which has a horror style motif to it – and for good reason, as there are certain points in the game when you can become famed Halloween killer Michael Myers, once the Swamp Slasher field order is activated.
This map is excellent for those who prefer to come out of nowhere at their opponents, due to the dark lighting and the various caves and structures they can come popping out of. If you’re not the kind of person that likes taking advantage of those, it’s best to stay on your toes. Like a good horror movie, someone can come out of nowhere.
Once one of your teammates turns into Michael Myers – again, it’s a matter of setting up the proper field order for it – it’s a great opportunity to hunt down opponents. They’ll be distracted in avoiding Myers so much that they probably won’t see others gunning for them from a distance. Coordinate with your team, and let the blood fly.
Containment
Finally, this medium-to-large sized map, set in a war-torn village in Mexico, will provide ample opportunities to rack up kills on the ground, although there are various platforms that snipers can use as well.
This is a great map when it comes to perfecting the ground game, with lots of cover points and the ability to pop out and take someone by surprise. It’s important to keep moving around and watching those in your surroundings – don’t get too cozy in a certain area. Don’t be afraid to find some higher ground as well, as it lets you get a clear perspective on a few walkways where enemies could be lurking around. Just try not to pop up too high, or you’ll be easy prey for a headshot.
In addition, keep an eye on the radioactive truck in the center of the village. This can really do a ton of damage to surrounding enemies, although you need to activate a field order with a mortar in order to detonate it. Coordinate a strike with your friends and keep a close eye on the area, then let the opposing team have it when they least suspect. NOTE: keep in mind you probably won’t get all the team members, since they prefer to be spread out between snipers and assault crews running elsewhere on the map. Still, some taken out in the blast certainly beats none at all, right?
We’ll have tips for the Extinction: Nightfall co-op episodic mission for you in an upcoming article!
