Most people thought Mortal Kombat was done when the final character in the first Kombat Pack was released. E3 2015 had come and gone, Evo 2015 was over and done with and there was no indication that more was coming. However, late last year Ed Boon and his dev team announced a second Kombat Pack consisting of Tri-Borg, Leatherface, Bo Rai Cho and a Xenomorph from the Alien franchise. We took a quick look at Tri-Borg, now it’s time to delve into what the Xenomorph will offer.
First and foremost, if you haven’t already seen the reveal trailer for Kombat Pack 2, take a look at that below. You’ll notice that the Alien comes out of a Tarkatan (presumably Baraka). At the very end of the trailer, after the Xenomorph drops down, we see that the Alien has arm blades similar to Baraka. While we don’t yet have full details on the Xenomorph’s fighting variations, we know that at least one of them sports Baraka’s arm blades.
Baraka is featured in the story mode of Mortal Kombat X and many believe he would be a character in Kombat Pack 2. We don’t yet know if all three of the Xenomorph’s variations feature the arm blades, but it’s safe to say that at least one variation will basically be Baraka with a few Xenomorph additions. Expect to see the trademark Blade Spin and Chop Chop special moves, although his Spark projectile attack will likely be replaced by something more Alien-like.
The other two variations for the Xenomorph are somewhat of a mystery. Given the fact that the Mortal Kombat development team went through the trouble of including a Xenomorph in the game, and the fact that you will be able to pit the Xenomorph against a Predator, it stands to reason at least one of the fighting variations will be a more traditional Alien-like fighting style. It’s not really Alien vs. Predator if the Xenomorph is a Baraka hybrid in every variant.
If we take a closer look at the Predator’s fighting variations, everything is very Predator-like. Expect the same attention to detail with the Xenomorph. It will have attacks with its tail, acid saliva and blood will play a role and it’s very likely we’ll see some form of Facehugger attack. Although anything dealing with the Facehuggers could easily be reserved for fatalities or even the character intro. Imagine selecting the Tarkatan variant to see Baraka walk out and an Alien pops out of his stomach just before the match starts. This could very well be the scene depicted in the trailer.
No matter how the Xenomorph plays, expect to see some epic Alien vs. Predators battles in the near future. The only thing remaining is to see Freddy Krueger added to the game (even if it’s just a port of the character from MK9) so horror fans can also play out the Jason vs. Freddy fantasy.
