William “B.J.” Blazkowicz makes a triumphant return in Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus, when he once again finds himself against the Nazi regime that ruined the world of the original game. While Wolfenstein 2 might look like any other FPS game on the surface, there are a lot of little nuances that you’ll need to know if you want to be successful in your endeavors to thwart the Nazi’s plans and save the world again. In this article we’ll go over several Wolfenstein 2 tips that we think all new players should know, that way you’re prepared for the battle that is to come.
Take out the Kommandant
The first tip that we want to give you is simply. While playing through Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus, you’ll have the opportunity to find and eliminate Kommandants, which are able to call for backup. While these enemies aren’t exceptionally hard to kill—they’re actually very easy to take down—their ability to call for backup can really mess up a good run, so taking them out is going to be a good idea as you explore the world and find all of the hidden secrets the Nazi’s are hiding.
You’ll also acquire Enigma Codes from any Kommandants that you kill, and you can use these in the Enigma Machine to unlock secret missions called Uberkommandant. These secret missions will allow you to track down high ranking Nazi enemies, giving you even more to do in the game.
Look for Collectibles
With well over 200 collectibles hidden around the in-game world, Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus is a collectible hunter’s dream come true. Not to mention the collectibles all dive deeper into the world and lore of the Wolfenstein series, which is something that any Wolfenstein fan will be able to appreciate. So don’t be afraid to take your time, explore every room you come across, and make sure you check out our collectible guides for even more details on how to find all these hidden items.
Use Your Map
It can be tempting to ignore the map in first person shooters, but doing so in Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus means you’ll miss out on a lot. Exploring the world is always a good idea in games like Wolfenstein 2, and ignoring the nooks and crannies means you’ll miss out on vital lore-building items like collectibles and other things. Make sure you use your map to keep an eye on things you haven’t checked out yet, and be sure to explore them to get the most out of the game’s stunning and chilling world.
Using your map also means you’ll be able to find different ways to go about doing things. While the story in Wolfenstein 2 may be more linear than open-world games like Fallout 4, that doesn’t mean there is only one path to get from point A to point B, and you should always look for the path less traveled if you want to make the game even more interesting.
Study Your Perks, Choose Carefully
With a total of 18 perks to choose from, it can be tempting to just dive in and start unlocking every one of them. Instead, though, make sure you’re taking your time and studying each of the perks, their effects, and what they have to offer before you commit your points to them. You’ll also be able to level up your Perks five times (for each Perk), so make sure you check out what the upgrade levels unlock, and how you can reach them as well.
These are just a few tips that we think will make your first few hours in Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus much more successful, and they’re things that we wish we’d known when we started the game up.
