Like most boss-type enemies in God of War, Ogres are terrifying, especially if you have a ton of other enemies around you. The good news is, these tough creatures are easy to kill when you know what you’re doing. We’ll show you everything we’ve learned about how to defeat Ogres in God of War and share some helpful tips to keep you alive during the fight.
How to Defeat Ogres
Ogres become pretty popular enemies as you traverse the nine realms in God of War. Knowing how to take them down easily will be paramount to your continued success on Kratos’ journey.
The real key to taking down Ogres is to constantly stay moving and to make use of your axe throw. Aim straight for the Ogres head to stun them momentarily and disrupt any attacks that the Ogre might be attempting to start up. This is a good way to break up the fight and give yourself a few moments to attack.
You’ll also want to make sure you’re using your Runic attacks. There are several different Runic attacks that you can use, but most of them will deal damage to the Ogre, and sometimes stop it from attacking. We personally found the slams very useful. You can also make use of your Spartan Rage to whittle down the Ogre’s health quickly, as well as to build up its stun meter. If you can manage to stun it, you can run up and press R3, giving you a chance to hop onto its head and deal additional damage to it. This will also cause the Ogre to smash around, letting you deal damage to other mobs in the area.
If you want to stay alive when you’re fighting Ogres, then you’ll want to make use of the dodge button as much as possible. This will become very important as the fight progresses, especially if there are other mobs around. Do not let yourself become hemmed down, as this will give the Ogre free reign to bash in your skull and beat you to a pulp—neither of which are fun for Kratos. Instead, dodge away from attacks, and always keep yourself out of corners. Doing this will keep you alive so that you can continue to attack, dodge away, and attack again.
Rinse and repeat the strategies above until you manage to kill the Ogre, then grab its loot and continue on your merry way.
