When Microsoft and Sony announced that they were joining forces for Microsoft’s Cloud program, the gaming community was shocked and the end of console wars was something suddenly seen as achievable (just kidding, we petty). That being said, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella recently opened up about the partnership and how it is “all driven by Sony.”
“First of all, it’s all driven by Sony,” said Nadella in a recent interview with Fortune. “They looked at who are all their partners that they can trust. In fact, it turns out, even though we’ve competed, we’ve also partnered.”
He added, “Basically and fundamentally the fact that we have a business model in the areas that they’re partnering with us, where we’re dependent on their success. So we will do the best job for them, whether it’s in Cloud or whether it’s in AI or what have you, in order to make sure that Sony can succeed with their own IP creation.”
“Sony is a creative entertainment company with a solid foundation of technology. We collaborate closely with a multitude of content creators that capture the imagination of people around the world, and through our cutting-edge technology, we provide the tools to bring their dreams and vision to reality,” Sony President Kenichiro Yoshida told the public in a previous statement.
He added, “For many years, Microsoft has been a key business partner for us, though of course, the two companies have also been competing in some areas. I believe that our joint development of future cloud solutions will contribute greatly to the advancement of interactive content.”
