Fire Emblem: Three Houses spends a lot of time playing Teacher Simulator. This won’t surprise anyone, given the nature of what we know about the story already. In fact, the game even lets the player character learn from other faculty members in its early stages. However, like any good anime, it becomes a matter of the student surpassing the master; once you pass the time skip, you gain the ability to actually learn skills from the kids that you once taught. For those who aren’t familiar with Faculty Training, we have a basic guide up already about how that works. Essentially, you’re able to visit the different teachers on campus like Manuela and Catherine and get them to teach you skills, much in the vein that you teach your students skills during lesson time. However, once the time skip occurs in the game, things get switched up a little. Byleth gets introduced to Fire Emblem Three Houses Advanced Drills, which essentially turns the tables a bit and means that you can end up learning skills from not only the other faculty members who are left, but also your students.
Advanced Drills are initiated much in the way that Faculty Training was. You can talk to your students and a new option after the time skip will include Advanced Drills. If you select it, you’ll be able to train skill with that student so long as their proficiency in it is higher than yours. The skills that are available are different from student to student, and as far as we can tell, they’re not dependent on the class of the student at the time that you’re engaging in the Advanced Drills. However, they might be generated based on students’ starting proficiency in skills.
The hard and fast rule here with Advanced Drills is that you can only train in skills that your students have a higher proficiency than you in. For example, if Bernadetta has an A in archery and you have an A in archery, then you won’t be able to partake in her Advanced Drills if archery is the skill on offer. From our experimenting, the skills offered aren’t randomly generated, so it’s not a matter of running off to fish and waiting until next week to try it on with the same student just in case the skill on offer is different.
We would recommend using Advanced Drills as a way to supplement the skills that you think Byleth will need if they’re going to spec into a specific class that doesn’t just require A+ sword or axe skills (which you seem to cultivate quite organically just by following the course of the game in combat).
