Miyamoto-san joined Nintendo back in 1977 and has been instrumental in many of our most beloved games such as The Legend of Zelda franchise, Star Fox, Donkey Kong, Mario, and so many more! In a recent interview following Japan’s selection of Miyamoto-san for the award of Person of Cultural merit, he mentioned that retirement just isn’t in the cards for him right now.

“I’m going to do my best to keep doing new things so I don’t get asked if I’m about to retire,” he told VentureBeat. He added, “I want people all over the world to smile.”

When Miyamoto-san first created the Super Mario Bros. and Legend of Zelda games, he cemented himself as a bright mind in the gaming world. He also helped to shape a more positive reception of games in the public eye during the 80s. From then, he continued to create amazing adventures leading up to the sad passing of Nintendo President Satoru Iwata, where he stepped in alongside Genyo Takeda as acting president until being appointed Nintendo’s “Creative Fellow” some time later.

The Nintendo community, and the gaming community as a whole, has a lot of love for Miyamoto-san. We’re so proud of his latest award and are so thrilled to see that he is showing no signs of leaving games in the near future. With The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 on the way and the Switch continuing to knock expectations out of the park, we can’t wait to see what else he has in store!
