With all the talk around the Resident Evil 3 remake, it makes sense that this highly beloved franchise would be right back in the middle of the ever-flowing rumor mill. The latest? A new Resident Evil 8 leak has emerged alleging that the next installment of the series will be in first-person.
Before we dive into the leak, we want to remind our readers with the same message we attach to all leaks and rumors: take them with a grain of salt until the studio itself confirms the news. That being said, many leaks turn out to be true, so bearing that in mind let’s dive right into what the latest mill has turned out.
According to Dusk Golem, also known as ‘AestheticGamer’, a leaker that has a pretty steady reputation in the gaming community for their long track-record of accurate hits, the next Resident Evil game will 8 and is on track for a 2021 launch. The same leaker previously announced that Resident Evil 8 is “years away,” a wording that they explained in a series of tweet:
The reason I said RE8 was “years away” earlier this year is last year a RE8 was in development, & that one is years away. But Capcom didn’t want a huge gap between RE7 and RE8, so that title got pushed to the side for now, & internal testing and such was super positive on Rev 3.

The game has been going through some huge changes to make it more like a “mainline” title, big changes to the story, characters, etc. So specifically what you’ve heard may not be fully true in the final, but a number of elements remain.
So as I’ve said, it’s a cross-gen game.

Due to Revelations 3’s positive reception, Capcom is reportedly looking to work on this a little longer, instead swapping out Resident Evil 8 instead as to not let the time of release stray too far ahead of Resident Evil 7’s previous launch. This leaker also alleges that Resident Evil 8 is undergoing some pretty hefty changes and that it will reportedly be a cross-gen game, which is to be expected if it’s looking to launch early next year.
Regarding the first-person intel:
the game. The rest I’ll leave to be revealed later this month, but the game I am incredibly excited about. And I suggest those weary should be open minded, most who played the game near-finished as Rev 3 think it’s terrific. It’ll probably be a high quality game.

As we mentioned previously, take this Resident Evil 8 leak and all other leaks like it with a massive grain of salt until Capcom themselves announce the news.
