Yesterday, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney was joined by his team for a new Summer Games Fest livestream to reveal the Unreal Engine 5. The showcase was stunning and the tech demo definitely impressed but what so many couldn’t stop talking about is how Sweeney’s backdrop looked like the starter house in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The discussion grew and eventually, it was actually recreated in Animal Crossing: New Horizons and we laughed way more than we should have.
Twitter user ‘Mid_GeekCrisis’ took to the social media platform to reveal and pretty darn accurate recreation, though to be fair – it was a very simple landscape to work with. The character even looks so much like him, this was just perfect, and while it’s not hard-hitting gaming news, we got a chuckle out of it and we hope you did too.

For those that may have missed our previous coverage, the Unreal Engine 5 has been revealed and utilizes Nanite and Lumen technology to deliver movie assets right to the games. You can learn more about it with our breakdown here, but this is a total game-changer in a way that previous launches haven’t quite nailed on the head. With the reduction of time spent on baking BGs and a more streamlined process, this new engine is perfect for productivity, efficiency, and for delivering a new future for the way gamers experience these enhanced adventures.
As for the Nintendo game, Animal Crossing: New Horizons continues to be a massive playground for the gaming community to explore their own creativity. We’ve seen anime homages, game tributes, and so many other creative ways for players to make their island truly their own. Even recreating reveals, like the Tim Sweeney creation above.
With a few more months of the Summer Games Fest, created by Geoff Keighley, it will be interesting to see some of the other surprising reveals that are on the horizon. Who knows, maybe Animal Crossing: New Horizons recreations will be a norm for these types of moments, which would be hilarious!
