During the June EA play livestream event, viewers were given their first look at the Star Wars: Squadrons gameplay in a new trailer. Further, it was officially confirmed that Star Wars: Squadrons will fully support crossplay at its October 2 launch.
Star Wars: Squadrons will feature both a single-player story and some multiplayer modes. The main story will take place after the events of Return of the Jedi and will alternate between a New Republic and Imperial Pilot storyline. Unfortunately, we will have to wait a little bit longer to get any more story details, but we do know that the story will be told back and forth between the two pilots.
As far as multiplayer modes in Star Wars: Squadrons are concerned, there have been two different modes announced for launch thus far. Further, the upcoming multiplayer modes were the focus of the gameplay trailer that was shown during the EA Play event, which can be seen above. The first multiplayer mode is called Dogfight and will be a 5 vs. 5 battle between players.
The second mode shown during the stream is called Fleet Battles and will be the “signature” multiplayer mode. Fleet Battles are multi-staged fights where players can compete in teams of five against other players or AI. The first stage of the battle will be fairly similar to the Dogfight game mode, while the second stage will task players with attacking or defending Capital ships, based on the results of the Dogfight. During the last stage of Fleet Battles, the losing team will be defending their Flagship, while the other team is trying to take it down.
Additionally, during the Star Wars: Squadrons gameplay reveal trailer, viewers were shown eight different ships which will be customizable, alongside pilots. Additionally, there are around 50 ship upgrades that players will be able to earn during the game and outside of microtransactions. These components will alter how your ships fly, fight, and survive. Further, loadouts will be customizable depending on the player’s current strategy. At the time of writing, this is all we know about the upcoming title, but we will certainly be getting even more news in the coming weeks and months ahead of launch.
