How to Get a Free King’s Rock in Pokemon Sword and Shield

A rock fit for a king.

Evolution items can be pretty hard to come by in Pokemon games, but especially the more esoteric ones. For example, in Pokemon Sword and Shield, it is not easy to get your hands on a King’s Rock. But thanks to a recent competitive event, you have a window of time to get one for free, thanks to the game’s Mystery Gift feature.

Pokemon Sword and Shield King’s Rock Mystery Gift Code

Pokemon Sword and Shield only gives you one King’s Rock, which you can find on Route 8. As far as the base game is concerned, that’s it! You can also get it randomly if you catch a Hawlucha, but that Pokemon only has a 5% chance of holding one. That isn’t great odds considering the effort. And without multiple King’s Rocks, filling out your Pokedex becomes a real challenge.

Luckily, there’s a new Mystery Gift code out for September 2020, that will give you a bonus King’s Rock for whatever your needs might be. All you have to do is open up the menu once you’re in the game, open up the Mystery Gift menu, and select the “Get with Code/Password” option. From there, you want to enter the code “K2020CHAMP1ONS.” That’s a one instead of a capital “i.” Once you enter the code and close the menu, the new King’s Rock should be resting safely in your inventory. You can use it to evolve pokemon like Poliwhirl or Slowpoke, the latter being an apparent part of the next upcoming DLC expansion if the rumors are true.

Unfortunately, that brings the grand total of easy King’s Rock to two, so that isn’t a massive improvement. Still, if you’re gunning for a Pokemon that needs it to evolve, that’s better than grinding out Hawluchas.

Are you in need of a King’s Rock at just the right time? Or are you grabbing one to keep in your pocket just in case the Crown Tundra DLC brings something new to use it on? Let us know what you think over at the Prima Games Facebook and Twitter channels!
