How to Fly a Helicopter in DayZ

To fly a Helicopter in DayZ, use the following default keyboard keys:

  • Gain altitude: Q
  • Slow down: Z
  • Shift forward: W
  • Shift backward: S
  • Shift left: A
  • Shift right: D
  • Turn left (at speeds below 30km/h): X
  • Turn right (at speeds below 30km/h): C
  • Free inspection: *

Of course, you can rebind those keys to whatever you like, and if you need some practice before you jump into the pilot seat and crash your Helicopter with your friends inside, it might be a good idea to go through the Helicopter flying tutorial in ARMA II. Since DayZ is basically like an ARMA mod with zombies, the controls are identical. So head to ARMA II and get used to controls in the tutorial since there isn’t one in DayZ.

If those controls are not doing the job for you and you want to rebind them to be more like helicopter controls in Battlefield games, just set everything up as in the picture below – those are ARMA II controls set up to work just like in Battlefield, and you can set them up like that in DayZ as well.
