Warhammer 40K: Darktide sure has a library of weapon stats to keep track of, and many of them are confusing. Stats like Damage and Stability may be straightforward for the most part, but what is Finesse supposed to mean? It’s all super confusing, and some of the stats for the shotgun can be quite confusing too, including one particular one. Here’s what the Collateral stat is in Warhammer 40K: Darktide.
The Darktide Collateral Stat Explained
As mentioned above, you’ll first have noticed the Collateral stat when finding a shotgun and checking its stats. The shotgun itself is quite powerful, but Collateral doesn’t make much sense. You may find yourself scratching your head, or thinking it’s like a sniper collateral from something like Call of Duty. Well as much as this is going to surprise you, guessing that was somewhat correct. Collateral in Darktide refers to the penetration of that weapon’s bullet, in this case, the shotgun’s pellets.
This stat may sound useful on paper, though unless you’re using it to clear hordes which you probably shouldn’t, it won’t have many use cases. Ranged weapons are mainly equipped for dealing with Specials, Elites, and Monstrosities, so unless you find some grouped up (I sure hope you don’t find monstrosities grouped up), it won’t matter much.

Still, having any additional stats for a shotgun is welcome. It’s a great weapon for close-range encounters with all sorts of enemies, but having some nice tradeoffs for its lack of range can be welcomed. That’s not to say a shotgun needs it though, its burst damage is more than enough. That’s even considering that most shotguns in games, unlike Darktide, are completely messed up stat-wise and are outright broken. This is mostly through damage, pellet spread, and effective range. You can find plenty of instances around the internet if you don’t believe us.
