Battles are serious business. Trainers who know that are well aware that Pokemon has a series of base stats: your attack, defense, speed, etcetera. But what many trainers don’t realize is that not all Pokemon are born the same.
The moment a Pokemon is generated in the game, it comes with a set of Individual Values (IVs) that will determine what its stats will be. One Eevee you catch during a Mass Outbreak, for example, might have a higher speed stat than an Eevee you catch thirty seconds later.
A Pokemon’s IVs can make a world of difference in competitive battling or difficult 6 Star Raids, but you may have noticed that there’s no way to access them, at least early on in your game.
How to Check Your Pokemon’s IVs in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
Unfortunately, checking your Pokemon’s IVs is a perk kept for only the highest level trainers in Paldea. If you want to discover whether you have the most efficient, optimized team possible, you’ll have to beat all eight gyms, complete the Elite Four assessment, and topple La Primera herself.
If you manage to achieve all this, run to your closest Pokemon Center. There, Nurse Joy will notify you that a new function is available: Judge.

Judge is simply a new way to evaluate your Pokemon, and this is the only way you can see your Pokemon’s IVs. Head into your box, then click the ‘+’ button on your Nintendo Switch controller. Hover over the Pokemon you’re interested in inspecting, either in your team or in your box.
Clicking ‘+’ once will provide you with straightforward numbers. But if you hate to look at numbers, like I do, click it again and you’ll get ratings that range from No Good to Fantastic. You’ll also be able to see your Pokemon’s nature, which adds its own significance to a battle.
Good luck getting those perfect IVs, trainer!
