If you’re still on the fence about tomorrow’s release of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition, then you may want to prick up an ear. Boasting several more hours of fresh content, this promises to be one of the best RPG experiences on console this year.
For those of you that may now know, the console release is packed with over four hours of new content in the third chapter. If you decide to play through each of the new quests multiple times to see the different outcomes, then you can expect to double that. However, it is worth playing through Iorveth’s path and Roche’s path at least once each to get the full story.
The Secrets of Loc Muinne
The Secrets of Loc Muinne quest is available for players who sided with Iorveth in Chapter 1. This quest will lead players into a secret area beneath Loc Muinne, where it is said there are great treasures to be found. Geralt may run into a familiar face here, and be faced with some tough decisions. The Secrets of Loc Muinne quest focuses on puzzles and riddles that will challenge even the most veteran Witcher 2 players. Some of the riddles are so difficult that an incorrect answer leads to instant death. That doesn’t mean there isn’t combat to be found though, you’ll need to stay on your toes for enemies at all times.
The Crown Witness
If you side with Roche in chapter 1, the new quest line that starts in chapter 3 is named Crown Witness. This quest begins with a new character named Brigida Papebrock, who is a key witness to events surrounding the disappearance of King Foltest’s children. Eventually you will be lead to an area that has a secret cave. If enter the cave at night, you may find yourself face to face with a werewolf, as this is the only place in the game that you can encounter a werewolf outside of the Arena mode. You’ll need to fight, do detective work and form some alliances in order to solve this mystery completely.
Both of these new quests are available near the start of Chapter 3, and only those who have played The Witcher 2 already will know that they are completely new. The quests are woven into the storyline so well that new players won’t know the difference. Each quest can have multiple outcomes, so there is quite a bit of replay value to be found.
Players will also be treated to new storyboards in between each chapter, summarizing what has happened, and what is currently transpiring in the world of Temeria. Each of these new storyboards are voiced over by none other than Geralt’s good friend, Dandelion the bard.
All in all, there’s plenty for new players to love about The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition. Veterans of the series will also find that the new content is worth taking another trip into Temeria. But don’t take my word for it…
