Deciding your house in Hogwarts Legacy is one of the first major steps in starting your adventure. The house you’re in determines which Common Room you use, among other features such as clothing and housemates. While you’ll be able to immerse yourself in the in-game sorting ceremony, there is another way to choose your house outside of the game. If you’re interested in learning more, continue reading to find out how House Sorting works in Hogwarts Legacy.
How Does House Sorting Work in Hogwarts Legacy?
The process of House Sorting in Hogwarts Legacy is similar to what we see in the original Harry Potter story. After enrolling into the school, we’ll wear the magical Sorting Hat that tells us which of the four houses we belong to. Our choices are Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Slytherin and Gryffindor. While it isn’t a long process, the hat will ask you a few questions to determine which house you belong to.
While this may sound fun and random at first, there is a way you can bypass this initial sorting ceremony entirely.

How to Choose Your House Early in Hogwarts Legacy
You can choose your house and wand before entering the game by taking various Harry Potter Fan Club quizzes through the official Wizarding World site. After making an account and completing these tests, you can link it to your Warner Bros profile.
Below are the exact steps to choose your house early in Hogwarts Legacy:
- Head to the Wizarding World website and navigate to Hogwarts Sorting. Make sure you create an account or log into a pre-existing one.
- Complete the Hogwarts House Sorting quiz that appears on the screen. You can also complete quizzes to determine your Patronus and Wand.
- If you haven’t already, create a Warner Bros. Games account.
- If you already have one, head to the Hogwarts Legacy account connection page to link the two profiles!
By taking the steps above, you’ll connect the two profiles, allowing you to automatically select your house and wand upon entering the game. You’ll also receive an exclusive wallpaper and in-game cosmetics, including the House Fan-atic School Robe and Beaked Skull Mask!
Changing Your House
Regardless of whether you use the Wizarding World quiz option or the regular Sorting Ceremony, you do have the opportunity to pick a different house. Once the Sorting Ceremony concludes and your house appears on the screen, you can either accept it or choose a different one, leading to you selecting from the four options.
