Minecraft breaks XBLA launch-day record

Fez devs express fresh stress

Minecraft has broken the Xbox Live Arcade’s day-one sales chart, Microsoft have revealed.

There aren’t yet any exact figures but Trials Evolution’s impressive record, set just last month, has certainly been beat.

Markus “Notch” Persson tweeted news that the XBLA edition became profitable within its first hour of sales.

The news has sparked a few complaints from Fez developer Polytron, who feels Minecraft’s creator has received preferential treatment.

“How did you get those stats from MS?” the tweet came. “We still don’t know exactly how much Fez sold almost a month later. You get stats in 24 hours?

“What? Really? I thought it was standard procedure! That sucks. :(” Notch responded.

The Fez studio later tweeted that “standard procure [sic] is: you find out how much you sold when you get your first check 3-4 months later.”

“You’re also getting free updates,” Polytron added, “which is something every other developer on the platform is told is simply not an option.”

In response Notch commented “we had to fight for that, and we got a limited number of them. Not sure why they don’t like it.”

It seems that Notch was getting his stats from the leaderboards rather than straight from Microsoft though, according to a later tweet.
