Video games are a great way to bond with a significant other, especially if it’s something easy to pick up and play. There are so many games available on the market at this point, that it’s easier than ever to find a game to play with someone that you care about. From tragic tales to lighthearted fun, my wife and I have spent countless hours playing a variety of games together, and I wanted to share a few of these titles with you to make a boring night a bit more exciting. Here are five of the best games you can play with your favorite person.
5. Wobbly Life – Xbox, PlayStation, PC
Suppose you’re looking to find something incredibly casual with plenty of opportunities to goof around. In that case, Wobbly Life may be the best thing that has ever happened to you and your relationship. Taking plenty of cues from games like Human Fall Flat and even Gang Beasts, this physics-driven adventure game will ensure you’ve got your daily dose of happiness.
As you venture around the large open world, you can either take on story quests that will lead you through an admittedly thin narrative, or you can cause plenty of chaos in a variety of different ways. We always find ourselves doing a few different quests to try and unlock some new items and then spending the next bit of time being rambunctious hellions in a variety of different ways. Needless to say, Wobbly Life should be on your radar if you’re looking for something fun and unique to add to your game nights.
4. Sun Haven – PC
Admittedly, I was eager to put Stardew Valley on this list, as it was one of the first games that my wife and I played together. I went out and actually bought her a Nintendo Switch so we could play the game together, and after logging in for hundreds of hours, we finally grew tired of what was on show. Enter Sun Haven, a newer farming/life-simulator that takes what makes Stardew great and adds to the formula.

A bit of structure can go a long way, and this title showcases that from the start. You’ll have objectives, quests, magic, combat, and so much more to look forward to when you jump into the world of Sun Haven, it’s almost staggering to see the amount of content in store here. While we are both still learning the ropes, as we just jumped into this world recently, one thing can be said: Sun Haven is one of the best multiplayer experiences available on the market.
3. It Takes Two – Switch, Xbox, PlayStation, PC
Once my wife was a bit more comfortable with the idea of playing what she likes to refer to as “real games,” we decided to jump into the creative and colorful world of It Takes Two. While there were a few moments of frustration, particularly with her learning the ropes on how to aim specific weapons, it was an excellent experience that we both are itching for more of. There really isn’t anything else on the market like It Takes Two, and it’s a shame.

While the outer shell of this particular game may be colorful and adorable, a fairly sad story lies within its walls. However, as you work through your frustrations in this world, you have a perfect opportunity to get close to a loved one and play one of the best games of the current generation. There is no single-player mode, so you’ll need to have a second player to go through this journey with, and it’s better for it. Trails and tribulations await you, but you’ll leave this experience stronger than ever.
2. Moving Out – Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, PC
After giving Overcooked a run for our money and almost filing for a swift divorce, we wanted to find another game in the same style: slightly hectic, while still offering room to breathe and make mistakes. Moving Out appeared as an Xbox Live Games With Gold title back in November of 2021, so I snagged it up, and we found exactly the game we were searching for.
The fast-paced and frantic action, paired with the over-the-top humor of Moving Out made it a little easier to digest. You can still take your time if you don’t mind losing out on some of the Gold Medals you could earn, but this puzzling little game was an absolute blast to play through. The ability to bring in even more players could make it a great game to jump into with some family members, as well. Moving Out is one of those games that hold a silly little spot in our hearts, and we can’t wait to do it again when the sequel launches.
1. Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics – Nintendo Switch
Growing up, I loved board games and did whatever I could to make sure I could play a variety of different games with my family on a self-declared Board Game Night. These nights took place on Fridays when I was growing up, and I don’t know how my parents didn’t ground me after having to play Monopoly or Candy Land for the 20th week in a row. Thankfully, my wife is in the same boat. She comes from a home that thrived and survived on board games, with Yahtzee holding command on their nights still to this day.
So, the fact that there is a huge compilation filled with a variety of different board games, from staples like Dominos and Yacht Dice, to formerly unknown games like Hare and Hounds, we found a plethora of ways to connect and play together. Plus, using Mosaic Mode, which allows you to use two Nintendo Switch consoles to play on an extended screen together made some of the less-exciting games offered in this package find a new life in our household.

The world of video games offers a little bit of something for everyone, so if you’re in the mood to try something new with your favorite person, be sure to give any of these games a try. Just make sure that you’re ready to sign a prenup if you’re jumping into Overcooked together… I learned that the hard way. Sometimes, taking things a bit more casually can be a good thing.
