So far, we’ve seen a ton of quality weapons in our Best Video Game Weapons list, and even though we overlooked some favorites, we assure you that the 20 picks over the next two days are the best when it comes to vanquishing evil – or perhaps even causing it.
We’re continuing our list today with numbers 20-11, so let’s get to it.
Best Video Game Weapons 50-41 | 40-31 | 30-21
20. The Metal Blade (Mega Man 2)
The Metal Blade is easily one of our favorite Mega Man weapons of all time, and for good reason – this sucker cuts deep. After acquiring it from Metal Man, you’ll be able to launch buzzsaws at your foes and deal heavy damage. Hey, it sure beats trying to shoot lightning bolts, or maybe even clouds.
19. The beam katana (No More Heroes)
The lightsaber from the Star Wars movies is a terrific weapon, but Travis Touchdown found a way to take a similar weapon and use it for assassination purposes in the No More Heroes games. Watching him mow down the competition with his beam katana – and then hilariously shake around while trying to recharge it – is easily a pleasure to behold.
18. The flak cannon (Unreal series)
There are a number of great weapons to choose from in the Unreal games. However, you can’t go wrong with the Flak Cannon. This modified shotgun shoots little particles that bounce off walls, hitting anyone they come in contact with. One good up-close shot can shred an enemy almost instantly, and the secondary fire-bomb tactic isn’t too shabby either. Make sure you have one of these on hand during your next match.
17. The chainsaw (Doom series)
Bruce Campbell proved there’s plenty you can do with a chainsaw in the Evil Dead trilogy, and id Software followed suit by including one in Doom. Although it’s not recommended against tougher enemies, the chainsaw can do quite a bit of damage to weaker ones, mowing them down with ease. Try playing a match with one on a higher difficulty setting, and see just how long you last. We dare you.
16. The RYNO (Ratchet & Clank series)
Over the years, the Ratchet & Clank series introduced a number of outlandish weapons, including one that forces enemies to dance to their doom alongside a disco ball – or get turned into chickens. However, nothing beats the good old RYNO, a multi-missile launcher that’s quite effective against both groups of foes and bigger adversaries, like the robot that appears in the clip above. Make sure you have one on hand.
15. Falcon’s Talons (Ninja Gaiden series)
Ryu Hayabusa’s Dragon Sword kicks butt, as does the Eclipse Scythe mentioned earlier in this list. However, the Falcon’s Talons take the cake – as well as any limbs they come in contact with. Ryu dons Wolverine claws on both his hands and feet, making him a lethal force no matter which combo he uses on his opponents. You’ll make sliced sashimi in no time.
14. The Land Shark gun (Armed & Dangerous)
LucasArts’ Armed & Dangerous is a most unconventional game, so, yes, it has many unconventional weapons to go along with it. Along with the gravity-reversing Topsy Turvy weapon, the Land Shark Gun is easily our favorite, as it fires the hungry little suckers underground, only to have them pop up and chew your enemies to bits. If only we had one of these to fire into a Sharknado…can you imagine? LAND SHARK!
13. The fireball (Super Mario Bros.)
In his early gaming days, Mario didn’t have much offense going for him, aside from being able to use an occasional hammer and jump on enemies. However, with Super Mario Bros., he received an amazing new power-up with the Fire Flower – the ability to throw fireballs. Using these, he can take out enemies from a distance, clearing the way for him to dash to the finish line.
12. Scorpion’s spear (Mortal Kombat)
We already knew Scorpion was a powerful warrior the moment we saw him in the original Mortal Kombat. However, it was with his first spear throw that we knew what he was capable of. With the shout of “Get over here!” (or “Come here!”), he expressed his authority and trapped his opponent, forcing them closer for a devastating uppercut, or some other form of attack. We still love this move.
11. The Blades of Chaos (God of War)
Kratos is the sort of guy who has no problem ripping someone apart with his bare hands. Fortunately, his pair of swords, the Blades of Chaos, add an extra dimension to his offensive techniques, as he can hit multiple enemies at once and easily cut a hole in them the size of Texas. In later games, these Blades only grew stronger, allowing Kratos to do even more unimaginable damage to his enemies. Can’t wait to see what they can do in the next God of War adventure.
