Call of Duty Ghosts: Devastation First Look

The Predator is on the hunt in the new Ghosts map pack.

Fans of first-person shooter Call of Duty: Ghosts are in for a treat over the next few weeks, as Activision and Infinity Ward prepared the latest map pack for the game, Devastation. It’s set to debut on Xbox 360 and One this week, with a release on PC, PS3 and PS4 later on.

We provided a brief but helpful rundown of the four new maps in the game, as well as the new Extinction episode, Mayday, and the additional weapon you’ll have access to. Plus, if you’re a fan of 80s movies, you’ll love the big surprise.

Ruins

The Ruins is a Mayan temple complex located in Central America, a triangular map with plenty of room to run, as well as sniping positions for those who prefer to take out targets from a distance. Featuring a lush environment and plenty of hiding spots, this is a good map to gain a competitive edge.

Perhaps the most interesting element of the Ruins is the volcano, which quietly sits in the background. Once you earn access to the proper Field Order Reward, you can set off an explosion that causes the volcano to erupt, littering the area with lava rocks that act as a bombs. As a result, you’ll immediately hurt enemies in the vicinity, unless they’re wise enough to find cover. Think of it as an evolution of the Mortar Fire perk.

Behemoth

This map will definitely be a favorite to those that love hiding behind high-tech machinery, as the entire map takes place on an enormous earth excavator saw. You’ll be able to run across catwalks, so there are advantages to various types of players, whether you prefer up-close strikes or taking out targets with sniper rifles.

For good measure, the Field Order Reward is spectacular, allowing you to take control of a minigun aboard a Blackhawk helicopter to take down enemies. It’s similar to the Chopper Gunner perk from Call of Duty: Black Ops, so if you enjoyed that, you’re going to love this.

Collision

A shipwreck isn’t the most ideal place to have a gun battle, due to its rusty condition and the fear that everything could fall apart at any given moment. Nevertheless, Infinity Ward turned the scenario into one of this pack’s most exciting maps, featuring lots of room to run around on the ground, as well as two sniping points near the center of the ship. You’ll probably want to earmark this point and have a soldier clear it out on occasion.

This stage’s Field Order Reward consists of an A-10 Warthog, which runs through the level in one flail swoop and takes out targets. It isn’t nearly as cool as the Blackhawk or the volcano, but effective when it comes to racking up kills.

Unearthed

The final map takes place on a Cryptid meteor excavation site, redesigned from the Dome map in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. If you’re a veteran of that map, you’ll feel right at home here, whether you prefer distance shooting or run-and-gun style of play.

Although the Field Order Reward wasn’t unveiled for this specific map, players can hunt down the Venom-X weapon, a semi-automatic that can do a whole lot of damage. We’ll provide tips on how to locate it shortly after Devastation’s release.

Extinction Episode 2: Mayday

Devastation will continue the Extinction storyline, this time on a nearly deserted Chinese ship. Your job is to rescue a doctor being held by the ship’s captain, although it’s hardly that simple, as you’ll have to contend with familiar aliens from the first chapter, as well as new breeds.

These additional creatures include turret-style tentacles that consistently shoot bursts of fire, serpent-like creatures that pop up out of boxes and the water, and a large octopus-style creature, which will no doubt appear once the level comes to a close.

We’ll have individual strategies for taking these creatures out shortly after the pack’s release.

The Predator

If you’re a fan of the classic Arnold Schwarzenegger movie Predator, then the creature that appears at the end of the Devastation trailer will be quite familiar. The Predator is a dangerous foe, capable of tracking targets while using a cloaking device and utilizing a number of dangerous weapons, including a plasma cannon.

Activision has yet to reveal the Predator’s role in Devastation, but more than likely, he’ll be an unlockable perk, probably in the Mayan level. He’ll probably be used the same way that Halloween killer Michael Myers was in the Onslaught pack, where players temporarily take control of him to rack up kills. We’ll have more information following the release of the DLC.

Overall, the new map pack is packed with great content, no matter what your style of play, and the new Extinction chapter – along with the Predator – should add more appeal.

Look for the Devastation pack on April 3rd for Xbox One and Xbox 360, and later on for PC, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. It’ll cost $14.99, or free if you have the Season Pass.
