Dragons Dogma 2 was one of those games that I always fantasized would happen, but thought never would — but guess who was proven wrong by Capcom themselves? Fans have been hoping for a demo for a while now, and what we got was not what any of us expected.
While a Character Creator demo was not what I was hoping to lose countless hours in, it seems that’s going to be the case here. Funnily enough, having the chance to mess around with what is on offer here has me more hyped than a gameplay demo would have done for me. Now, let me explain what I mean by this.
Dragon’s Dogma 2, of course, is an action role-playing game — but where is the fun in role-playing if you can’t make either the most horrifying Eldrich-esk horror that you’ve ever seen, a recreation of your favorite actor or actress, or even a version of yourself to explore the massive world around you? Dragon’s Dogma has generally surprised me in a variety of ways, and I haven’t even gotten to jump into the main meat & potatoes of it yet.
Since we have some time before Dragon’s Dogma 2 finally releases, I’ve spent hours at this point creating some of the most horrifying sewer goblins that I could potentially take into the world. With adjustable factors such as Posture, my dreams have never been closer to reality. Do you want to create the most drop-dead gorgeous character that rivals the looks of supermodels or bodybuilders? You can make that happen. Do you want to make a horrifyingly obese creature missing all of their teeth that look as if they should have never been created? You can do that, too.
The sheer number of customizable factors available to players is seemingly unending, and I already know I’m going to struggle with who I should pick to play through this epic tale with. Will I pick my horrifying Benjamin Franklin/Dick Cheney lookalike that was brought to creation by attempting to make Danny DeVito? Possibly, or should I consider taking Olgar the Destroyer — the neckbearded gremlin of a man that emerged deep from the inner walls of my imagination for a spin? I’m not sure, as I’m already working on making even more abominations before I can finally play the game.
Don’t worry — you can let your wild side run wild, too. You don’t need to stick to the human race here, as you can go ahead and get your Furry on and make the most fantastic beast and you’ll know exactly where to find them. And don’t worry, if you’ve spent a lot of time on your character, it follows you into the main game so you can take your newly created baby into it.
When everything is said and done, I’d still love to see a proper Dragon’s Dogma 2 demo that will let me get a taste of all of the new features being injected into it — but until then, anything else that I’m playing is going to be put on the back burner until I can go ahead and find my perfect playable character and Pawn.
