Everything We Know About Mortal Kombat X: E3 Edition

We learned quite a bit about the new Mortal Kombat at E3 2014.

NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. took E3 2014 by storm, showing off Mortal Kombat X in considerably more detail than what many expected. We have plenty of in-depth coverage on the way, including closer looks at each of the six playable characters in the demo, but for now, we compiled a list of everything you need to know about the Mortal Kombat X demo.

  • The official title is Mortal Kombat X, not 10.
  • There are three playable stages: Snow Fortress, Outworld Marketplace, and Cove.
  • There were 24 character slots in the E3 demo.
  • MKX will have the most new characters out of any Mortal Kombat to date.
  • The Final boss is a returning character that may surprise some people.
  • The story picks up at the end of MK9 and goes 25 years into the future.
  • There will be new meter mechanics in addition to Enhanced Special Moves (EX Moves), Breakers and X-Ray Moves.
  • Interactables return from Injustice, but they can now be blocked (unlike Injustice).
  • Brutalities may be added in the future.
  • There are five “finishing move” slots in the move list for each character (this may include stage finishers and other non-Fatality finishing moves).
  • Frame data will be present in each character’s move list.
  • Six announced characters: Cassie Cage, D’Vorah, Ferra/Torr, Kotal Kahn, Scorpion and Sub-Zero.
  • Cassie Cage is the daughter of Sonya Blade and Johnny Cage.
  • Each character has three variants that share a universal set of special moves and have special moves and abilities unique to each variant.
  • Cassie Cage’s variants are Hollywood, Brawler and Spec Ops.
  • D’Vorah variants are Swarm Queen, Venomous and Brood Mother.
  • Ferra/Torr’s variants are Ruthless, Vicious and Lackey.
  • Kotal Kahn’s variants are War God, Sun God and Blood God.
  • Scorpion’s variants are Inferno, Hellfire and Ninjitsu.
  • Sub-Zero’s variants are Cryomancer, Unbreakable and Grandmaster.
