We’re halfway through our list of the Top 50 Mortal Kombat fatalities of all time, and we’ve already seen our fair share of bloody ones, as well as a few oddballs that made us laugh. (Such as Darrius’ “Rearranger,” for example.) Now, we’re getting into the good and gritty of the best fatalities, including a couple more friendships for good measure. Because friendships.
Without further ado, here are numbers 20 through 11, hand-picked to provide you giddy delight as you watched an opponent get beaten severely – or handed an unexpected gift.
The Best Mortal Kombat Fatalities of All Time
20. Sindel’s Migraine (Mortal Kombat)
Sindel’s siren-like voice has always been effective since her debut in Mortal Kombat III. However, it’s in the latest Mortal Kombat game where it has the greatest effect, as she grabs her opponent’s head and shrieks right in their ear, causing the side of their head to explode as a result. Let’s just hope she doesn’t have an interest in singing lessons.
19. Johnny Cage’s Autograph Friendship (Mortal Kombat II)
He may be a busy movie star – and fighting in an otherworldly tournament to save his home planet – but Johnny Cage always has time for a quick autograph. For his friendship finisher, he signs away on a glossy of himself to give to his opponent. It was such a popular move, it even made its way into the 1997 Mortal Kombat film – though where Cage kept it is beyond us.
18. Raiden’s Head Explosion (Mortal Kombat)
Raiden’s super-charged capabilities don’t just allow him to dart across the screen and shoot electrical bolts. They also allow him to turbo-charge someone’s skull with enough lightning charge to make it explode. That’s exactly what he does with his debut fatality, a simple, effective move that shows he’s definitely in, ahem, charge.
17. Kung Lao’s Frisbee Throw Friendship (Mortal Kombat III)
Out of all the friendship moves in the Mortal Kombat games, we keep coming back to Kung Lao as one of our favorites. He makes the unfortunate mistake of throwing his hat like a Frisbee, only to have a dog chase after it. Seconds later, the dog lets out a whimper, and Kung Lao cringes, expecting the worst. Look on the bright side – he wasn’t playing with a human.
16. Smoke’s Smoke Out (Mortal Kombat)
Think smoking isn’t bad for you? That’s not what this ninja warrior thinks. For his fatality, he injects a pouring amount of the stuff into his opponent’s skull, leaving them lingering for several seconds before it drains from their body and melts them away as a result. Yikes. His Tremor one is just as bad, as he leaves them quivering for a few seconds before they melt into nothingness.
15. Sektor’s Robo Sek (Mortal Kombat)
It’s bad enough having your body torn to bits by an incoming missile – but Sektor takes his end game even more seriously. He launches multiple missiles that target body parts as they’re flying in the air, obliterating them before they even hit the ground. So much for that open casket funeral…
14. Scorpion’s Toasty (Mortal Kombat)
When first playing Mortal Kombat, players may mistake Scorpion for being “just another ninja.” That tune changes rather quickly when his fatality is concerned, though. He pulls off his hood to reveal a skeleton head, then lets loose a blaze of fire from his mouth that obliterates his opponent completely. Toasty!
13. Reptile’s Tasty Snack (Mortal Kombat II)
Reptile made a fine addition to the cast of Mortal Kombat II, complete with trademark punch-back orbs and acid spit. However, his finisher was something else. He tears off his hood, sticks out a long, lavish tongue at his opponent, and eats their head whole, rubbing his stomach as he does it. It kind of adds new meaning to the phrase “take out,” doesn’t it?
12. Liu Kang’s Explosive Combo (Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks)
Liu Kang has a lot of slick moves to his credit, but his sickest can be found in the off-shoot beat-em-up game Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks. He rolls up and uppercuts an opponent’s head off their shoulders, then executes a fiery bicycle kick that sends it flying right back to the body, making it explode. If Liu Kang ever gives up fighting, he probably has a future in soccer.
11. Sektor’s Squash (Mortal Kombat III)
Sektor has another great fatality that can easily squeeze his opponents down to size. He unleashes a large pair of mechanical arms from his chest, which surround his opponent top to bottom and then close in. The end result, as you may expect, is a skooshed foe that will probably take some time to clean off. Let’s hope it doesn’t rust.
See you tomorrow for the final top ten!
