It’s been over a decade since Pokemon Black and White were released, but it doesn’t mean they’ve been forgotten. Generation 5 introduced more new Pokemon than any other generation ever, and some funky-looking Legendaries among them, too. Take a look at this list of all Generation 5 Legendary Pokemon.
All Generation 5 Legendary Pokemon
Generation 5 was sort of like a soft reboot of the Pokemon franchise. If you didn’t notice at the time (I sure didn’t), before becoming the Champion, you could only catch native Unova Pokmon. They wanted to make the experience resemble Gen 1 as much as they could.
Some entries in the Unova Pokédex might mirror some of the original 151, but the Legendaries certainly aren’t the case. Generation 5 introduced fewer Legendaries than its predecessors, and, luckily, most of them have been carried over to newer games.
Reshiram
A Dragon/Fire-type Pokémon, Reshiram is the mascot for Pokemon Black. Its tail is like an engine: it can light up and combust when in Overdrive Mode. Much like every other version mascot, it’s required that the player catches it to continue the story.
Aside from Gen 5, Reshiram can also be obtained in Pokemon Omega Ruby, X and Y, Sun and Moon, Ultra Sun, and in Pokémon Sword if you have the Expansion Pass.
Zekrom
Zekrom is Reshiram’s counterpart and the mascot of Pokemon White. It is a Dragon/Electric type, and its design features more angular, hard shapes. Its tail also resembles some sort of engine, but certainly not a fire-powered one like Reshiram’s. Along with Reshiram, they were based on the Ying-Yang.
Aside from Gen 5, Zekrom can also be obtained in Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, X and Y, Sun and Moon, Ultra Moon, and in Pokemon Shield if you’ve got the Expansion Pass.
Kyurem
Kyurem was introduced in Pokemon Black 2 and White 2. It can fuse with Reshiram and Zekrom to turn into White Kyurem or Black Kyurem, respectively. By itself, it’s a Dragon/Ice-type Pokemon. Along with Reshiram and Zekrom, they’re known as the “Tao Trio,” though this is a fanmade term.
Besides Gen 5, Kyurem is obtainable in Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, and in Sword and Shield if you own the Expansion Pass.
Cobalion
Cobalion is a Steel/Fighting Legendary Pokemon and the leader of the “Swords of Justice”, a group based on The Three Musketeers. Cobalion is based specifically on Athos. A futuristic version of Cobalion was introduced in Gen 9 as a Paradox Pokemon named Iron Crown.
Besides Gen 5, Cobalion can be caught in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, and Pokemon Sword and Shield with the Expansion Pass.
Terrakion
Another member of the Swords of Justice, Terrakion is a bulky-looking Rock/Fighting type Pokemon. It is the only Pokémon with this type combination and is based on Porthos from The Three Musketeers.
Just like Cobalion, Terrakion can be caught in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, and Pokemon Sword and Shield with the Expansion Pass.
Virizion
A Grass/Fighting type Legendary Pokemon, and another member of the Swords of Justice, Virizion is based on Aramis from The Three Musketeers. Just like Cobalion, it has also gained a futuristic alter-ego as a Paradox Pokemon: Iron Leaves.
Along its mates, Cobalion and Terrakion, Virizion can be caught in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, and Pokemon Sword and Shield with the Expansion Pass.
Tornadus
What if the forces of nature were Pokemon? Well, that’s exactly what Nintendo thought. Tornadus is the first one of them, and is a pure Flying-type Pokemon. As its name suggests, it represents tornadoes. It also has an alternative form, the Therian Forme, which resembles a bird.
Aside from Gen 5, Tornadus can be caught in Pokémon Omega Ruby, Ultra Sun, Sword (with the Expansion Pass), and Legends Arceus.
Thundurus
Another one of the Forces of Nature, Thundurus is an Electric/Flying type Legendary Pokemon. It represents thunder and, in its Therian Forme, acquires a more serpent-like body with little legs.
Outside of Gen 5, Thundurus can be caught in Pokemon Alpha Sapphire, Ultra Moon, Shield (with the Expansion Pass), and Legends Arceus.
Landorus
The last member of the Forces of Nature to be introduced in Generation 5, Landorus is a Ground/Flying type Pokemon that represents the mighty power of earth. In its Therian Forme, it becomes a quadruped. In Pokemon Black and White, Landorus can only be encountered if the player has already caught Tornadus and Thundurus.
Outside of Gen 5, Landorus can be caught in Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, Sword and Shield (with the Expansion Pass), and Legends Arceus.
