Snow is coming and Tarsis is about to be teeming with holiday spirit! For those freelancers ready to get into the holiday spirit in Anthem, BioWare has just revealed what fans can expect from the upcoming celebration.
PC players were able to test out some of the features on the Public Test Server, which ended earlier this week, but that only gave a small portion of what players can experience in the game when Icetide goes live. Outside of the entire map being covered in snow, the Tyrant Mine Stronghold will also be available once more for players to earn some winter-themed gear.
Tarsis, the inner city and social hub of the game, will also be decked out in holiday cheer. There will be new missions, new gear to earn, and festive unlocks for Freelancers to deck their own halls with boughs of holly. We don’t have an exact release date for when the upcoming Icetide event goes live in Anthem, only that it’s coming in a few weeks.
With so much unusual radio silence from the team paired with a nasty reception due to bugs and different perspectives on the game’s base story, many have wondered if BioWare would continue to support the adventure given that it meant to be a chaptered tale. It’s honestly exciting to see a new content update, especially in relation to a previous message about where the game goes from here, and so soon after the Halloween Season of Skulls event.
Our sister site GameDaily.biz sat down with EA CEO Andrew Wilson earlier this year to talk about a wide variety of topics about their company, public perception, and all of the bumps in the road through the years. One of the topics that came up was Anthem and how the publisher is working with BioWare to ensure its future.
“We brought together these two groups of players who were making this emotional value calculation on two different vectors. One was traditional BioWare story-driven content, and the other was this action-adventure type content. About the 30 or 40 hour mark they really had to come together and start working in on the elder game. At that point everyone kind of went, ‘Oh, hang a minute.’ Now the calculation is off. It’s off because I’ve got a friend who sits in this other category of player. They want to play the game a certain way. I want to play the game a certain way. The promise was we can play together, and that’s not working very well.”
He added, “IP lives for generations, and runs in these seven to ten-year cycles. So, if I think about Anthem on a seven to ten-year cycle, it may not have had the start that many of us wanted, including our players. I feel like that team is really going to get there with something special and something great, because they’ve demonstrated that they can.”
Destiny 2 and No Man’s Sky proved that perseverance is key but communication and valuable content is vital here for Anthem to make a similar comeback.
As for the game itself, Anthem is available now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
