When you pilot a helicopter or jet for the first time, head to the Test Range. This allows you to test out any vehicle, weapon, or upgrade without connecting to a live server. Practicing in a hostile-free environment is the best way to get familiar with any vehicle. Plus, you never want to crash a helicopter with a bunch of teammates riding in the back.

In the default configuration, the left stick controls the helicopter’s throttle or rotor speed, as well as the helicopter’s yaw or rotation. Use the right stick to control the helicopter’s pitch, allowing it to move forward, backward, or even sideways. If you’re not crazy about this control scheme, you can adjust it to match your style of play. The veteran control scheme reverts the controls back to the Battlefield 3 configuration, where the triggers control rotor speed. PC players can completely map all-new controls to their liking, using a mouse-keyboard combination. But even on the PC, the analog controls of a control pad or joystick are recommended, particularly when lining-up cannon shots.
