We’re video game fans and with that, we’ve got our fair share of collectibles up in our offices, whether it’s a Mass Effect figurine on a desk, a framed Marvel vs. Capcom Origins poster on the wall or a Dragon’s Lair lunchbox. But we know there are a bunch of you out there that are fans of Capcom’s Street Fighter.
Ever since the series’ inception in 1989 (and full growth in 1991 with the release of Street Fighter II), more and more fans have been playing the games, fighting against friends or learning to master combos and counter moves to become even better with a character. Originally sold for $149.99 when it released last September, the set has since dropped 33 percent in price – making it even more of a bargain. This is an ultimate Street Fighter package that includes both Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition and Street Fighter x Tekken, a bandanna to tie around your forehead, a light-up statue featuring Ryu, a two-disc Blu-Ray set explaining the fandom behind Street Fighter, a 64-page art book, a soundtrack collection, and an awesome collector’s box. Street Fighter x Sanrio Arcade FightStick Pro (Xbox 360/PlayStation 3, $159.99)
MadCatz has made a number of outstanding peripherals based over the past few years that have paid lovingly tribute to the Street Fighter franchise, but its latest FightStick design easily takes the cake. That’s because it utilizes characters from the Sanrio (Hello Kitty) mold and transforms them into Street Fighter characters; Hello Kitty as Chun Li is adorable! Housed in a pink-ish casing and featuring arcade-quality joystick and buttons, the Arcade FightStick Pro is the best peripheral to have when it comes to beating down fools. Street Fighter Monopoly Collectors Edition (Board Game, $39.99)
“You must defeat Sheng Long to pass go and collect $200!” The game art doesn’t officially say that, but that’s the vibe you can expect from this modern twist on the classic board game. You’ll choose from a number of collectible tokens, including Bison, Blanka, and Vega’s Mask, as you move around the board buying traditional houses and hotels while also acquiring training rooms and dojos. With a game board that features classic Street Fighter art and fun “Bonus Stage” and “Random Select” cards to choose from, this is a must-play for anyone who cherishes Capcom’s series. Besides, when else are you going to get the opportunity to send Ryu to jail?
Street Fighter Collectible Mini Figure Series 1 Blind Box Case (Toys, $169.99)
Kidrobot has taken the cast of Street Fighter and super-deformed them into cute little figurines, with well over a dozen to collect in all. You could buy them individually, but they’re currently priced at $17.99 a pop and that adds up. The best way to go, if you want to try and get them all in one shot, is to buy the Blind Box Case, which gives you twenty random characters (no repeats, save for Ryu and Evil Ryu and alternate colored Blankas) in one magnificent looking toy case. It’s costly, but lining these guys up on your shelf more than makes up for it. Besides, shrunken-down Zangief looks awesome. Just look at his photo below…
Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Chess Set (Games, $159.99)
Another 25th anniversary item that would make a nifty addition to your collection – especially if you’re a chess player – is the new Chess Set being offered exclusively through Capcom’s store. Though a bit steep in price, this Chess Set features high quality silver and pewter-colored resin pieces (no cheap quality here) and a black wood storage case with polished chrome latch and hinges, along with a 25th Anniversary Logo laser-etched on top. You’ll also get a large 18″ x 18″ smoked and sandblasted glass game board, so you can display it even when you’re not playing. You can buy the chess set here and feel free to buy us one as well. Pop Culture Shock Collectibles Gouken vs. Akuma Diorama (Collectible, $349.99)
While the Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Collection offers a good light-up Ryu statue, it doesn’t hold a candle to this epic Gouken vs. Akuma diorama. Available in both a light-up ($350) and regular ($330) model, this 16.5″ tall collectible features Akuma coming at Gouken with a mighty dive kick. Featuring high quality polystone crafting and a huge amount of detail (even for a diorama, it’s remarkable), it also comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, so you can feel all official and everything. It’s costly, but definitely something that stands out.
Street Fighter: Extreme Edition Blu-Ray (Movie, $14.99)
Street Fighter is schlocky filmmaking at its best, whether it’s Jean Claude Van Damme’s hammy dialogue (“Who wants to go home, and who wants to go with ME?!”) and the late Raul Julia’s over-the-top interpretation of M. Bison. The Blu-Ray comes with plenty of extras, including outtakes, deleted scenes, a making-of (if you just need to know why it was made) and plenty of video game goodies. Besides, it’s better to watch this than try and take in Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li… by a mile.
