For the first time since Diablo’s original 1996 release, players will be able to customize their characters beyond a simple choice between genders. Diablo 4, scheduled to release this June, packs a suitably-sized character customization system that will allow players to actually add a little uniqueness to their rugged demon slayers. This month’s open beta test of Diablo 4 will give players the chance to explore the game’s five distinct classes, including a taste of the early game as well as the extent of how they can personalize their characters.
So, is it good? Well, based on what we’ve seen so far, it’s safe to say that Diablo 4’s character customization is more than enough.

Diablo 4 Finally Brings Good Character Customization to the Franchise
A recent tweet from the official Diablo Twitter account showcases a sneak peek of the character customization tools, specifically on a Barbarian. The clip shows a small sample of various makeup and jewelry that can be applied.
Because Diablo 4’s artistic direction seems to be returning to its darker, more harrowing roots, we can expect the demon-slaying Nephalem to somewhat reflect that. That means that while neon-tinted hair colors may be available, other aspects may have their limitations – namely, body types.
Each class has a selection of preset body types to choose from that can’t be used on other classes, an intentional move by Blizzard said to ensure a sense of class fantasy. That means you won’t be seeing any ripped Wizards or Necromancers roaming around, nor any scrawny Barbarians who normally wouldn’t be able to lift and swing giant war hammers.
Aside from locking body types, players will have a surprising amount of freedom to customize their characters in other details, including; ethnicity and skin tones, hair colors and styles, jewelry and piercings, makeup and tattoos, eye color, scars, facial hair, gender, and face variations. While the game offers both masculine and feminine facial presets, it includes a variety of unisex hairstyles, makeup, and body paints, and doesn’t appear to designate male/female descriptors for its characters.

The Diablo 4 early access beta runs live from March 17 to March 19. Open beta will last from March 24 to March 26. Will we see you in Hell?
