Gaikai Will Continue Non-Sony Support

Even though they were just purchased by Sony, Gaikai will continue to support its platform on non-PlayStation products.

Sony snatched up Gaikai, the streaming online game service, for a cool $380 million last week, adding to its plethora of gaming and promising quite a future for its PlayStation consoles.  But that doesn’t mean that Gaikai will go exclusively with Sony platforms.

SCE president Andrew House stated, “(Gaikai on other devices is) absolutely within the frame.  It’s recognition on Sony’s part that the cloud and cloud streaming technologies are going to have profound and possibly a very positive impact on not only our game business, but also in the way our consumers interact with and obtain content in general.”
This isn’t the first time Sony’s licensed out exclusive technology on other platforms, as you can see through Blu-Ray players and other sources of technology.  But Gaikai will play a huge part in whatever they’ve got planned, with their cloud gaming service being so highly valued by the large game community.
Sony hasn’t announced its plans with Gaikai and PlayStation just yet, but we’re likely to hear something about it sooner rather than later.  We’ll have all the full details here when that happens…
