The trend continues, ladies, gentlemen, and nonbinary folks; Hollywood isn’t stopping its movie releases based on beloved videos and their next target is Borderlands. The live-action science fiction film will be available in theatres on August 9, 2024. We got a year to tempt them to change their casting to Jamie Lee Curtis playing Handsome Jack; let’s go!
What Do We Know About the Borderlands Movie So Far?
Sadly, Jamie Lee Curtis isn’t going to be playing Handsome Jack, but the synopsis for the movie and a good part of the cast are already out.
Having premiered at CinemaCon in 2022, the film does look to be hitting familiar beats within the franchise that are a nod to players both new and old. After all, we do have a year to wait, might as well refresh ourselves on the game and story in the meantime.
The film is written and directed by Eli Roth, with the screenplay also written by him, as well as Craig Mazin. The movie is being produced by Avi Arad, who worked on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and Erik Feig, with Nathan Barr overlooking the music score.
From what we know, the film will follow Cate Blanchett’s Lilith as she returns to the plant of Pandora in search of her missing daughter. Even though she’s one of the strongest outlaws in Atlas, she’s going to be teaming up with a former mercenary Roland, demolitionist Tiny Tina, Tiny Tina’s sidekick and protector Krief, scientist Tannis, and our ever-infamously famous Claptrap. Once again, we’re seeing the classic trope of a team coming together for one ultimate goal that may or may not lead to some serious hijinks down the road.
Already, we have a fantastic cast of characters to look forward to, including one Jack Black as Claptrap.

While the film may not release until August 9, 2024, we can count on looking for some trailers in the meantime to keep us going. Just in case they need a little extra push with some of the direction that they are taking. We don’t want another Sonic issue on our hands, but the Super Mario movie was pretty good, so we can only hope that Lionsgate Film will carry on a rising trend of stellar game-movies trend!
