There’s no doubt that God of War is one of the best games this year. After releasing nearly two weeks ago to positive reception, God of War has since received tons of praise for its intriguing narrative, smooth combat, and stunning visuals from both players and game critics alike. It turns out that Sony Santa Monica’s efforts have paid off, as today it was revealed that God of War is officially the fastest selling exclusive title on PlayStation 4.
God of War had a remarkable launch weekend, selling over 3.1 million units globally in just three days from launch. Sony has released several popular exclusives in recent years, but none have been able to achieve such a feat. According to a post today on the PlayStation Blog, the development team at Santa Monica Studio have been humbled by the public praise of God of War.
Shannon Studstill, studio head at Santa Monica Studio, took a moment to thank players for embracing their bold new vision for the God of War franchise. “I would like to personally thank the millions of fans around the world who decided to embark on Kratos’ latest adventure with us. Your support is truly inspiring, and it’s a reason why we push ourselves every day to go beyond the boundaries of play,” said Studstill.
Studstill also went on to thank the development team for their hard work. “I’d also like to thank our Creative Director, Cory Barlog, and Director of Product Development, Yumi Yang and our entire amazing team at Santa Monica Studio. The belief in the game’s vision and the passion for storytelling across the team is undeniable.”
God of War certainly deserves praise for injecting new life into an already popular series. Hopefully this inspires other studios to consider making equally ambitious single-player games in the future.
