The guys at Bungie have given a few bits of info on Halo 3, specifically the UI.
The devs have been working hard at putting in the new user interface this week, which although isn’t massive news will make some difference to the game experience.
“As it stands now, the interface is designed to make it very simple to get to a ‘lobby’ and make all necessary changes from there,” Frankie, Bungie webmaster said, “so that you can customize your experience, appearance, and more importantly, really specific game types from anywhere.”
The devs are responding to complaints about the Halo 2 UI, Frankie explains, as players couldn’t previously customize settings from the “Quick Options” menu. It’s also possible to change settings on the controller at any point in the game.
“The problem with adapting to a new UI is the problem of familiarity,” Frankie says of his initiation. “You expect things to behave the way they did in Halo 2 and when they don’t, it’s easy to think, ‘Oh, that’s broken,’ when in fact, something has technically been fixed. And the sign of a good UI is that it only takes a couple of tries to get used to it, and that everything is found in its logical place.”
