In a Wired article this morning, a new Star Wars game from Ubisoft Massive was announced. Very few details are known about the project, but this is the first big Star Wars video game to not be under the EA Banner since the company entered a partnership with the franchise years ago.
Lucasfilm Games Announce Ubisoft Massive Developed Open-World Star Wars Game
You can read an excerpt from the Wired article below, which has some key information about the project.
“Let’s start with Star Wars. Development on this new title is still very early—Massive is still recruiting for the project even—so details are sparse. Julian Gerighty, director of The Division 2 and The Crew, will serve as the game’s creative director, and the title will use Massive’s Snowdrop engine. Beyond that, Lucasfilm Games hasn’t revealed anything about the characters or settings within the Star Wars universe that the game will feature.”
Of course, yesterday, Lucasfilms also announced an Indiana Jones game developed by Bethesda’s Machinegames, which means the EA 10 year exclusive deals seem to be running out early.
While no confirmation has been made if EA has any more Star Wars games in the pipeline or if they will continue to make Star Wars games, we are eagerly awaiting to hear more from the company on its plans.
It seems more developers will have the chance to pitch Star Wars and other games in Lucasfilm’s library outside of just EA.
You can check out the official announcement of the game in a Lucasfilm Tweet below.
