After a long period of dormancy, Square Enix is set to revisit The World Ends With You in a big way. Not only is an anime adaptation of the original DS adventure on the way, a full sequel is as well.
Today, Square Enix announced both a PC version of NEO: The World Ends With You, and a release date. This unexpected but long-awaited sequel is coming to the PS4 and Nintendo Switch on July 27, 2021. The PC version will follow at a later date.
NEO: The World Ends With You to Launch in July
Both The World Ends With You games are about the “Reaper’s Game,” a Battle Royale- like premise that sees characters having to complete a certain task within a number of days, life or death style.
A new group of characters are part of this story, led by protagonist Rindo. You can see more about what to expect from the game in the trailer:
The World Ends With You became a cult favorite in the Square Enix world, due to its modern style based on fashion trends in Tokyo, along with its distinct soundtrack and off-kilter battle system. If you haven’t played the original yet, you can find modified versions of the original available on both the Nintendo Switch and mobile platforms.
