Ryu Ga Gotoku (RGG) Studio’s upcoming event, the RGG Summit, is confirmed to take place on September 20. The stream will take place on Sega’s Twitch channel and Sega’s YouTube channel simultaneously at 3 A.M. Pacific Time, 6 A.M. Eastern Time, and 12 P.M. Central European Time. While the times may be rough for fans in the Americas, it’s likely that this summit won’t be one to miss since any number of Yakuza/Like a Dragon games may be announced.
The latest mainline game in the series, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, was released earlier this year, making a Yakuza/Like a Dragon 9 announcement highly unlikely. On average, a new mainline Yakuza/Like a Dragon game gets released every four years, so even though the ninth game is likely already in development, now would be far too early to announce any details about it. However, spin-offs are fair game. A third game in the Judgment sub-series could be in the cards, especially since the series’s last game, Lost Judgment, released in 2021.
Another possibility could be Yakuza Kiwami 3, a remake of the third game in the main series. Yakuza 3, originally released in 2009 in Japan, has a beloved story, setting, and cast of characters, but could do with a much needed update to its combat, mandatory chase sequences, and series staple minigames like the hostess clubs, darts, and billiards. Besides the Summit confirmation, the latest RGG announcement made was about the series making its way to Nintendo Switch for the first time with Yakuza Kiwami, a remake of the first game, so more Kiwami news may follow it up.
It’s also possible for a new Gaiden game to be announced. There are plenty of adored characters in the series that could be the focus of a new Gaiden title, like Kiryu was in the original Gaiden. In addition to any game news, information about the upcoming Amazon Prime show may be sprinkled into the summit. Whatever may be announced, it’s likely to be elaborated upon at Tokyo Game Show, which takes place from September 26 to September 29, shortly after RGG’s stream.
