Move over, old Tomb Raider movies – you’re about to be replaced.
Yes, even though Angelina Jolie did make an ideal Lara Croft in her heyday, the Tomb Raider franchise is going through a reboot on the big screen – just as it is today with the release of the new game. GK Films, the development studio behind the Academy Award-winning Argo, is working closely with Crystal Dynamics on the film, working closely together to make sure that Lara’s essence is perfectly captured for the big screen. And, thankfully, that means no punching sharks. (Anyone who saw the Tomb Raider sequel from a few years back knows what I’m talking about.)
No word yet on who will be directing the film, nor who will be cast as Lara herself – though rumor has it that Olivia Wilde, the hottie from Tron: Legacy, is being heavily considered. We’ll let you know once casting is official.
In the meantime, don’t hesitate to check out the Tomb Raider game. It’s a thrill ride from beginning to end, and has serviceable multiplayer to boot. It’s available now for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
