PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (or PUBG for short) has made quite a name for itself in a very short time, and as one of the biggest games to release for 2017, it only makes sense that all eyes are on it to see what the developers have planned for 2018. In fact, PUBG Corp’s CEO, Chang Han Kim, has even stated that he hopes the game will one day be available on every platform. Furthermore, he hopes that one-day PUBG can even become a “universal media franchise” offering options beyond just gaming for its fans.
It’s weird to think of a multiplayer based game like PUBG gracing the television screen, but then again, the lack of story might make it perfect for a Hollywood adaption of some sort. For now, PUBG is available on PC and console through a timed-exclusivity agreement on the Xbox One. Based on Kim’s statement, it seems likely that we can expect to see PUBG on the PlayStation 4, and maybe even the Nintendo Switch at some point, as they would like to offer the game on every platform.
They’re already working to fulfil this directive thanks to the upcoming mobile version of the game, which will help spread the impact that PUBG has on the gaming industry to a part of the industry that is often ignored or forgotten.
Based on what the PUBG Corp CEO is saying, though, it sounds like we could see PUBG in many different areas throughout the coming years, and it will be interesting to see how the game and its premise translate over to movies, cartoons, animation, and more. Of course, one of the biggest areas they’d like to expand is into esports, and so far PUBG has a pretty solid build up for a good esports setup if they choose to pursue it.
PUBG continues to be one of the biggest games around right now, garnering over 1 million sales within the first 48 hours that the game was available on the Xbox One Game Preview program. It’s no wonder that the developer wants to push the title to different areas, and build its brand throughout the whole of the entertainment industry. For now, though, players can pick up PUBG on PC or Xbox One and see what all the fuss is about.
