Sony Reveals Game Upgrade Program for PlayStation 4 Titles

Get video games on the cheap when you buy the PlayStation 3 versions.

Over the past few weeks, you may have heard about retailers offering a program where you can buy current-gen versions of certain games, then pay a small fraction to upgrade to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions. Today, Sony detailed a program of its own, one that will actually allow you to enjoy both versions for a low price. No trade ins here.

The program is available both physically and through digital, whichever you prefer when it comes to buying games. Here’s how it works.

With physical Blu-ray PS3 discs, you’ll find four particular games – Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Watch Dogs and Battlefield 4, packed in with a code. This code can then be redeemed in the PlayStation 4, which then unlocks a lower rate on the PlayStation 4 version once it becomes available for download. This marks it down to approximately $9.99.

There’s a catch, though. In order to completely unlock the PlayStation 4 version of the game, you’ll need to insert the PS3 disc for access. Once it’s ready to go, it’ll download with no problem.

Those who prefer getting the game digitally will have an easier time. Once you buy the PS3 version for download, the PS4 discount will automatically unlock once it hits the PlayStation Store.

Look for all four of these games for the PlayStation 4 when it launches November 15th.
