Like every other Pokémon game, you’re faced with the daunting task of choosing your first Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet. Luckily, we’ll show you how to get all starter Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, as well as all starter Pokemon added through The Indigo Disk DLC.
Getting All Three Starters Early in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
As early as the first day in the Paldea region, you can get all three starters: Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly. For this method, you must have two copies of the game and two consoles to trade between, either locally or online. So it’s best to have a friend or family member handy for this approach.
You will need to start the game on your main profile. Pick one of the three starter Pokemon and play to the point where you get to the Pokemon Trade Centre, unlock trading, and can have a spare Pokemon in your bag.
Once you’ve done this, switch to the other device and create a second and third Switch profile. You will then have to select one of the newly created profiles and initiate a new game. Proceed to do the same as you did with your main profile. From the selection, pick one of the two remaining starter Pokemon you haven’t already chosen from and get to the Pokemon trade center again, where you unlock the trading feature.
Rinse and repeat this procedure with the third and last profile on the second device; start a new game, choose the final remaining Pokemon available, and advance to the same part of the game.
The final step when trading between accounts: first switch back to your main account and begin the trading process by going to the main menu and selecting Poke Portal. Once in the Poke Portal, select Link Trade and begin searching (go to the Poke Portal on your primary device while selecting the portal on your additional accounts on the other device as well). Once there, trade the starter Pokemon from both new accounts to your main profile with another random Pokemon.
Don’t forget to save your progress on your primary device after completing each trade.
There Are Two Ways You Can Carry Out the Above Procedure:
- Create both additional profiles at the same time. Get each starter on each of the separate profiles (the main profile and two other profiles), get to the same point at the Pokemon Trade Center on all three profiles, and then make the trade almost simultaneously.
- Alternatively, you can create one account at a time. After reaching the Pokemon Trade Center mark with your primary account, create the second account and proceed to unlock trading. Complete the trade and save your progress. Close that profile and create the third and final profile. Start the game from the beginning, get to the Pokemon Center, complete the trade, and then save your progress on your primary profile.
The above method will be tedious, and a process you’ll want to speed up. You can speed up the process by disabling the cutscenes and speeding up the text speed in the main menu. It should save you loads of time when acquiring all three starters. Furthermore, doing it locally will save time, not having to create multiple online accounts.
Is There an Alternative Way to Get All Three Starter Pokémon?
Yes, there is another way to get Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly. You’ll only need one device to carry out this method, and it’s the fastest. You’ll need to use Pokemon HOME to do this. Pokemon Home is an external cloud service sold by Nintendo that you can download from the App Store, Google Play Store, or Nintendo Switch.
Keep in mind that there are free and premium plans. The basic free plan doesn’t allow you to move Pokemon from Pokemon Bank and has a few limitations. You’ll only be able to deposit 30 Pokemon, place 3 Pokemon in the Wonder Box, and only 1 Pokemon in the GTS. The premium plan allows you to do all of this and host room trades and access Judge functions. It costs $2.99 a month, and more details can be found here.
This method allows you to easily create three user accounts on the same device and swap between all three created accounts. When you’ve made all three profiles, you will need to select a starter on each of the accounts and then run through the process until you get to the Pokemon Trade Center and have the ability to trade, as suggested above.
Once you’ve unlocked trading on all three profiles, save your progress. This part is where this procedure differs from the previous one. You will then need to log in to Pokemon Home on each profile and drop all the starters (the two starters not on your primary device) into a home box. Once complete, return to your main account, log in to Pokemon Home on this account, and retrieve the other two starters from your home box.
Trading methods are the only way to own all three starters, and they will not be available in the wild and, therefore, unattainable through capture.

How to Get All Starter Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s The Indigo Disk DLC introduces all of the starter Pokemon from previous generations, allowing trainers to catch every starter Pokemon in the wild for the first time.
In The Indigo Disk expansion, trainers will explore the Blueberry Academy’s Terarium, a location that is an undersea park with artificial biomes that is home to many wild Pokemon, including the starters from previous titles. But in order to encounter returning starter Pokemon, you will have to first complete many blueberry quests (BBQs) in the Blueberry Academy and rack up a stockpile of blueberry points (BP).
If you don’t have access to The Indigo Disk DLC, you can still collect every starter Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet, but you’ll need to either trade for them or transfer them through Pokemon HOME. You won’t be able to catch wild starter Pokemon without The Indigo Disk.
To gain access to wild starter Pokemon in The Indigo Disk, you need to access the PC in the League Club Room and donate 3,000 BP to upgrade each biome, which will have their own specific starters. This means, you’ll need 12,000 BP in total to upgrade all biomes and find every starter Pokemon in the Blueberry Academy’s Terarium. Gaining this much BP will require you to complete hundreds of BBQs, but you can speed up the process by playing with friends online, using the Union Circle.
Which starter Pokemon you will find in each biome are as follows:
Savannah Biome
- Charmander: found in the grass of the lowlands in the southeastern biome.
- Charmeleon: evolve Charmander.
- Charizard: evolve Charmeleon.
- Totodile: found in particular muddy pools in the middle of the biome and the north.
- Croconaw: evolve Totodile.
- Feraligatr: evolve Croconaw.
- Snivy: found among the grass and mud in the very far northwest of the biome.
- Servine: evolve Snivy.
- Serperior: evolve Servine.
- Fennekin: found among the hills of the highlands in the mid-east of the biome.
- Braixen: evolve Fennekin.
- Delphox: evolve Braixen.
- Rowlet: found all over the biome except for the southeast.
- Dartrix: evolve Rowlet.
- Decidueye: evolve Dartrix.
- Sobble: found in most muddy patches in the biome except for the northern patch.
- Drizzle: evolve Sobble.
- Inteleon: evolve Drizzle.
Coastal Biome
- Bulbasaur: found on the highland cliffs in the southwestern biome.
- Ivysaur: evolve Bulbasaur.
- Venusaur: evolve Ivysaur.
- Chikorita: found in the grass all over the biome.
- Bayleef: evolve Chikorita.
- Meganium: evolve Meganium.
- Mudkip: found in the Torchlit Labyrinth in the southwestern biome.

- Froakie: found in the biome’s northern areas.

- Popplio: found all over the waters of the biome except for the far mid-south.

- Grookey: found among the grass in the southeast of the biome.

Canyon Biome
- Squirtle: found among the cliffs and water of the lowlands in the southern biome.
- Wartortle: evolve Squirtle.
- Blastoise: evolve Wartortle.
- Treecko: found on the grassy highlands in the southern biome.
- Grovyle: evolve Treecko.
- Sceptile: evolve Grovyle.
- Turtwig: found all over most of the biome except for the far south.
- Grotle: evolve Turtwig.
- Torterra: evolve Grotle.
- Tepig: found all over most of the biome except for the central waters and mid-north.
- Pignite: evolve Tepig.
- Emboar: evolve Pignite.
- Chespin: found in Chargestone Cavern in the biome’s mid-north (overlaps with the southern Polar Biome).
- Quilladin: evolve Chespin.
- Chesnaught: evolve Quilladin.
- Litten: found in a large spread all over the northwest in the biome.
- Torracat: evolve Litten.
- Incineroar: evolve Torracat.
Polar Biome
- Cyndaquil: found in a single cave to the northeast in the biome.
- Quilava: evolve Cyndaquil.
- Typhlosion: evolve Quilava.
- Torchic: found in a single small cave midwest in the biome.
- Combusken: evolve Torchic.
- Blaziken: evolve Combusken.
- Chimchar: found all over most of the biome except for the far north.
- Monferno: evolve Chimchar.
- Infernape: evolve Monferno.
- Piplup: found all over most of the biome except for the southwest.
- Prinplup: evolve Piplup.
- Empoleon: evolve Prinplup.
- Oshawott: found all over most of the biome except for the southwest.
- Dewott: evolve Oshawott.
- Samurott: evolve Dewott.
- Chespin: found in Chargestone Cavern in the biome’s mid-south (overlaps with the northern Canyon Biome).
- Quilladin: evolve Chespin.
- Chesnaught: evolve Quilladin.
- Scorbunny: found all over the biome except for the north.
- Raboot: evolve Scorbunny.
- Cinderace: evolve Raboot.
The Hisuian forms for Typhlosion, Samurott, and Decidueye are not natively obtainable in The Indigo Disk, however, they can be transferred into Pokemon Scarlet and Violet through Pokemon HOME. They’ve also been previously available in 7-Star Tera Raid events, which may return in the future.
All starter Pokemon have very low catch rates, so you’ll want to make sure you bring plenty of Poke Balls with you while poking around Blueberry Academy’s biomes.
How to Get All Sinnoh Starters in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: The Teal Mask DLC
To get all the Sinnoh starters in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, you’ll need to talk to Mr. Jacq on your journey to Mosui Town following your first two successful battles in Kitakami. He will gift you with a Mystery Egg, which contains a Sinnoh Starter. It will be a random pick between Turtwig, Chimchar, and Piplup.
Once you’ve received the first Sinnoh starter, you’ll have to do the same as previously and find friends or other trainers with different starters that you do not have, and trade with them.
