Minsc is a returning character in Baldur’s Gate 3, but he can be difficult to find and will require some effort from your party in Act 3. Despite the challenges, we can help you locate the familiar face and even add him to your camp as a companion.
Finding Minsc in BG3
Depending on your progress in the game, you can either find Minsc in the main vault room of the Counting House, or the Abandoned Cistern of the City Sewers. If you recruit Jaheira and keep her alive, you’ll be able to track her questline, The High Harper. Following her questline will eventually lead you to the Counting House where you’ll first encounter Minsc. From here, he’ll escape into the sewers, at which point you can chase after him.
If you didn’t recruit Jaheira at the end of Act 2, or if Jaheira has died, you can stumble upon Minsc in the Abandoned Cistern of the City Sewers, but he’ll be unrecruitable. Jaheira needs to be alive in order for him to become a party member.
Where to Find Minsc in Baldur’s Gate 3
Provided you have Jaheira as a companion, you can find Minsc within the main vault room of the Counting House in Baldur’s Gate 3. The Counting House is located all the way south of the Lower City Central Wall portal. It’s hard to miss the house in the south because it sits by itself with two golden guards, only connected to land by a wide bridge.
Getting into the first section of the Counting House is easy, but you need to reach the main vault to find Minsc. We suggest talking to the head clerk and then convincing him to give you a temporary pass. Immediate violence is always an option to get lower into the vaults. However, it’s not necessary and the pass is far easier.
Grab your pass, and then keep descending down until you reach the vault with a code. This will lead you to the main vault that is even lower, and just so happens to have a deal occurring with Glitterbeard. Interrupt the deal and, in the mimic chest, Minsc will pop out for a full reveal. That won’t be the end though, and you’ll need to find him yet again. Investigate the clues around the main vault of the Counting House after a fight with some Bhaal cultists, and you’ll discover that he’s run off the City Sewers.
How to Find Minsc in the Sewers of BG3
Minsc will be hiding in the Abandoned Cistern of the City Sewers after he escapes the Counting House. The Abandoned Cistern is located all the way on the western side of the sewers, even beyond the Undercity Ruins. Follow the acid-covered pipes to find a hollowed-out pipe leading to the main room of the Abandoned Cistern.
Inside this room, you will find Minsc once again, and he won’t be convinced your friendly, initiating a battle. Reaching this part of the game will allow you to complete your quests for the Underduke and the Counting House.
You can also recruit Minsc to your party in Baldur’s Gate 3, but you need to meet the requirements, otherwise, there is no chance for recruitment to work.
How to Recruit Minsc in Baldur’s Gate 3
To recruit Minsc, you’ll first have to fight him in the City Sewers. This can be a difficult fight, and you’ll want to make sure you have non-lethal attacks turned on. If you kill Minsc during the battle, you will not be able to revive him, and he won’t become a party member. In fact, you’ll also potentially lose a party member if you kill Minsc, as Jaheira won’t be too happy about it and will permanently leave.
Have Jaheira with you during this encounter for an easier time recruiting Minsc. When talking to the Emperor, her insistence will force him to protect Minsc. If you don’t have her with you, you’ll need to pass a high DC Intimidation or History roll in order to recruit him. Note that if you never recruited Jaheira, or if she’s dead, you will have no chance of recruiting Minsc.
You’ll need to take out all the Bhaal cultists and knock out Minsc before you get the option to recruit him. Once you do, a cutscene will play out, and you’ll have to convince the Emperor to protect Minsc. If you succeed in that, follow Minsc as he runs around the sewers knocking down walls. He’ll quickly settle down, and you can then meet his fearsome friend, Boo, and have them join you in your journey.
