How to Open the Toy Chest Harper Stash in Baldur’s Gate 3
There are three ways to open the Toy Chest and unveil the Harper Stash in BG3:
- Cast the Light cantrip or a light-producing spell
- Cast the Produce Flame cantrip
- Throw it
Doing one of these three actions will cause the toy chest to reveal a larger Harper Stash. However, you’ll have to battle the three nearby Mimics if you have yet to. Once they’re defeated, you must succeed in disarming and opening the chest to access its contents.

Depending on the class you chose at the start and what spells you pick with each level-up, you may already have the Light or Produce Flame cantrips available. In my case, I didn’t have either of these and instead relied on Shadowheart’s level three Daylight spell. If you don’t have access to these, you can also throw the toy chest on the floor. Any of these methods work; it’s up to you to figure out which you prefer.
Opening the Harper Stash Chest
Once you cast your spell or throw the toy chest onto the floor, the Harper Stash will appear in the room’s center. If the Mimics have yet to awaken, opening the Harper Stash will cause them to surprise your party. Be prepared to defeat them before disarming and lockpicking the chest to get its loot. The Sleight of Hand check requires a roll of 20 or higher, so use a character with proficiency and expertise to boost your chances of succeeding!
